Koei Tecmo’s Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is coming to Switch 2 on 27th February 2027 in Definitive Edition form.

As revealed in today’s Nintendo Direct, the Musou spin-off and prequel story to Zelda: Breath of the Wild will get performance boosts, more enemies on screen at once, and will come with all the Expansion Pass content for the original, plus a new Calamity Mode which ups the difficulty to calamitous levels.

There’s no word on pricing just yet, but it’s worth noting that this isn’t a ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ – meaning there’s no Upgrade Pack path for owners of the original Switch 1 game. However, a discount for anybody who has the game already was mentioned. You’ll also be able to transfer your existing save data.

This game struggled in the frame rate department on Switch 1, and it greatly benefited from a performance boost when played on Switch 2 via backwards compatibility. It’ll be intriguing to see how a bespoke port can improve things further, although with the TOTK-themed sequel — Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment — already on Switch 2, perhaps this is primarily meant for those who missed it first time around (unless that discount for returning players is substantial). [Update: The discount appears to be 50% off for existing owners, so you can get the game for $29.99 / £24.99.]

Even with its suboptimal frame rate, we really enjoyed this one back in 2020. The game is live on the eShop with pre-orders at $59.99 / £49.99, and we’ll keep you posted when we hear more about the discount.
