Liverpool fans will get a first glimpse of what life is set to be like under new boss Andoni Iraola on Saturday as the former Bournemouth manager takes charge of the Reds for the first time. It will be a friendly clash in Nashville, Tennessee, against last season’s English Premier League surprise package, Sunderland.
After a dismal title defense last term under the stewardship of Arne Slot, Liverpool opted to replace the Dutchman with Iraola, whose intense attacking playing style has drawn comparisons to that of former Anfield boss Jürgen Klopp. New summer signing Víctor Muñoz, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker and Cody Gakpo, are all absent for today’s game owing to their involvement at the recent World Cup. Mo Salah will also be a miss, with the Egyptian star having made an emotional farewell from Liverpool at the end of last season.
Sunderland is looking to build on what proved to be a superb return to the EPL last season after an eight-year absence, with manager Régis Le Bris leading the Black Cats to an impressive seventh place.
Liverpool takes on Sunderland on Saturday, July 25, at Geodis Park in Nashville. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CDT in Tennessee. That makes it a 6 p.m. ET or 3 p.m. PT start in the US, an 11 p.m. BST start in the UK and an 8 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia on Sunday.
