In Echo Generation 2, every battle is a chance to build the perfect combo.

The sequel’s fast-paced turn-based combat blends tactical RPG decision-making with deckbuilding strategy, giving you hundreds of ways to experiment with cards, status effects, and party compositions. With more than 150 cards to collect and six playable characters, each with their own combat style, it can be hard to know where to start.

That’s why I wanted to share five quick tips to help you build stronger decks, discover powerful synergies, and survive the strange sci-fi threats waiting in Echo Generation 2.

Tip 1: Learn What Every Status Effect Can Do

One of the fastest ways to improve in combat is understanding status effects and card modifiers. Enemies can weaken your party, stack debuffs, or set up devastating attacks over multiple turns. At the same time, your own cards can apply effects that amplify damage, trigger combos, or completely shift the flow of battle.

During your turn, use the combatant selector (“RB” on XBOX controllers or “E” on keyboard) to inspect enemies, active effects, and card details. A quick check can help you spot enemy weaknesses, avoid dangerous attacks, or set up a stronger combo for your next turn.

Tip 2: Don’t Be Afraid to Rebuild Your Deck

If a fight feels impossible, your deck might just need a different approach. Some enemies specialize in defense, others overwhelm you with status effects, and some punish slower strategies entirely. A deck that dominates one encounter may struggle against another.

Try swapping cards, adjusting your party setup, or leaning into a completely different strategy. You might discover a combo or playstyle you hadn’t considered before.

Tip 3: Manage Your Battery Carefully

Powerful cards often come with limited battery charges. The green bars at the top of certain cards represent how many times that card can be used during a battle. Stronger cards usually have fewer charges, so using them at the right moment becomes part of the strategy.

It can be tempting to fill your deck with high-powered abilities, but balance matters. Mixing in reliable low-cost or unlimited-use cards helps ensure you still have options during longer fights.

The good news: battery charges fully refresh at the start of every combat encounter, so don’t be afraid to spend them when you need a big momentum swing.

Tip 4: Spend Your Skill Points Early

Leveling up does more than increase your stats – it unlocks powerful upgrades that can completely change how your deck plays. Don’t let skill points sit unused; some upgrades can completely transform difficult encounters.

Skill points can grant extra actions, apply status effects before combat even begins, or strengthen entire strategies built around specific card types.

And because you can freely reset your skill tree outside combat, you’re encouraged to experiment. If one build doesn’t fit your playstyle, you can immediately try another without penalty.

Tip 5: Build Your Deck Around Powerful Synergies

Some of the strongest strategies in Echo Generation 2 come from discovering how cards interact with one another. As you collect more cards, you’ll start finding effects designed to chain together for huge damage, bonus effects, or devastating status combinations. The real power often comes from building your deck around these interactions rather than relying on individual high-damage cards.

For example, the “Burn” effect damages enemies at the end of every turn. But the “Combustion” card instantly triggers every Burn stack at once while also dealing bonus damage. Used together, they can melt enemies far faster than using either card on its own.

And the best combos aren’t always limited to a single character. Some of the most effective builds come from spreading status effects across your party, then using another character to trigger or amplify them for massive payoff. Experimenting with unexpected card interactions is where the combat system really starts to open up.

Whether you want to create devastating status-effect combos, build a high-risk glass-cannon deck, or experiment with unusual party setups, Echo Generation 2 gives you plenty of ways to play your way.
