Summary: Blueland has reimagined household cleaning with a system designed to eliminate single-use plastic waste. Using innovative refill tablets and reusable containers, their products made my household cleaning simpler, more enjoyable, and much kinder to the planet.
What I Love:
- I love that Blueland’s forever containers are not only intelligently designed for easy storage but also color-coded for grab-and-go cleaning.
- I feel like a kid doing a science experiment when dissolving their tablets, and my children love being part of it, too.
- I have peace knowing their cleaning products are made without toxins and harmful chemicals, so they’re safe for my family, including pets!
Things To Know:
- I was disappointed that their reusable spray cleaning bottles are made of plastic despite so much effort to be plastic-free in all other ways.
As a mama with two young children, I aim to be as nontoxic as possible, especially when it comes to cleaning supplies. I would love to be more plastic-free in all areas of my life, too. My heart sinks every time I add my giant plastic detergent bottle to the recycling bin. Yet finding plastic-free cleaning alternatives while grocery shopping in a big-box supermarket is not always easy.
“Blueland offers a complete cleaning system designed to eliminate single-use plastic, helping keep more than 1 billion plastic containers out of landfills and oceans.”
This is where Blueland comes in. The company began with one mom who was troubled by the growing plastic waste crisis and frustrated by the lack of cleaning products that were both nontoxic and effective. Determined to find a better solution, she set out to create one herself.
Today, Blueland offers a complete cleaning system designed to eliminate single-use plastic, helping keep more than 1 billion plastic containers out of landfills and oceans. Their impressive list of certifications reflects a strong commitment to both human health and environmental responsibility. Blueland is B Corp Certified, Cradle to Cradle Certified, USDA Certified Biobased, and Leaping Bunny Certified, among many others. Not to mention all tablets are made in the USA.
In addition, Blueland’s cleaning products are made without parabens, phosphates, ammonia, chlorine bleach, or phthalates. They are vegan, gluten-free, and free from soy and nuts. As someone who struggles with eczema, I especially appreciate that they are also approved by the National Eczema Association.
My review of Blueland’s cleaning products
I had the opportunity to try Blueland’s products firsthand through their Clean Suite Kit ($88+), a comprehensive collection designed to tackle nearly every cleaning task in the home. From the kitchen and bathroom to laundry and everyday surfaces, the kit includes everything needed to create a low-waste cleaning routine:
- Multi-Surface Cleaner (1 Forever Bottle + 1 Refill Tablet)
- Dishwasher Detergent (1 Forever Tin + 60 Refill Tablets)
- Dish Soap Powder (1 Forever Shaker + 1 16oz Refill Pouch)
- Free & Clear Laundry Detergent (1 Forever Tin + 60 Refill Tablets)
- Free & Clear Oxi Laundry Booster (1 Forever Tin + 1 500g Refill Pouch)
- Foaming Hand Soap (1 Forever Bottle + 1 Refill Tablet)
- Toilet Bowl Cleaner (1 Forever Tin + 14 Refill Tablets)
- Bathroom Cleaner (1 Forever Bottle + 1 Refill Tablet)
- Glass + Mirror Cleaner (1 Forever Bottle + 1 Refill Tablet)

Given the number of products included, I expected the box to be quite large. To my surprise, it was actually fairly compact. Inside, everything was packaged without plastic and carefully wrapped in paper. Each item fit together thoughtfully, almost like a puzzle.
Unpacking the box felt a bit like a scavenger hunt as I matched the refill tablets to their corresponding spray bottles and tins, though everything was clearly labeled for easy organization. After setting everything out on the counter, I began bringing the products to life by dropping the dissolvable tablets into the cleaning bottles and filling the tins with their refills.

Multi-Surface Cleaner Starter Set | $12.80+
Pop-Up Sponge | $9.60+
Toilet Bowl Cleaner Starter Set | $18.40+
Let’s start with the three cleaning spray bottles. To my surprise, they were made from a thick plastic. I found this a bit jarring given Blueland’s mission to eliminate plastic waste, especially since each refill package is labeled “100% plastic-free.” I expected to find a clear explanation on the company’s website, but I couldn’t find one. They do note on their facts page that the bottles are made from Tritan, a durable, BPA-free plastic designed for long-term reuse.
Personally, I would love to see these bottles made from glass. That said, after using them, I can appreciate the benefits of a sturdy, reusable plastic that is lightweight and unlikely to break if dropped. While it wasn’t what I expected, I can understand the practicality behind the choice.
Each bottle features a different tint for easy identification during cleaning: blue for Glass & Mirror Cleaner, pink for Bathroom Cleaner, and yellow for Multi-Surface Cleaner. Just like the hand soap, I simply dropped the tablets into the bottles, added warm water, and let them dissolve.

The Multi-Surface Cleaner and Bathroom Cleaner each have their own distinct scent, and I really enjoyed both. The Multi-Surface Cleaner’s fresh lemon fragrance is especially refreshing, and I love the clean scent it leaves throughout the house after use.
The kit also includes Blueland’s Pop-Up Sponge. It arrived flat and compact, but after adding water, it expanded into a full-size, thick sponge. Made from compostable, plant-based cellulose, it’s highly absorbent and has quickly become one of my favorite tools for wiping down surfaces.

Last but certainly not least are Blueland’s innovative Toilet Bowl Cleaning Tablets and yet another adorable Forever Tin. I’d never tried a dissolvable toilet bowl cleaner before and was genuinely excited to give these a try.
The tablets are large and round, and they fizz and bubble as soon as they’re dropped into the toilet. You’ll still want to give the bowl a quick scrub after the tablet has dissolved, but they do an impressive job of cleaning. They’re also septic-safe and formulated to tackle tough toilet stains, including limescale, mineral deposits, hard water buildup, and rust. I keep the tablets in my bathroom and use them whenever the toilet needs some love.

Dish Soap Powder Starter Set | $14.40+
Dishwasher Detergent Starter Set | $20+
Scrub Sponge $11.20+
I started with the Hand Soap Bottle. Included in the box was a one-refill tablet, which I simply dropped into the bottle and filled with water. The tablet slowly dissolved, and within about five minutes, it transformed into a foaming hand soap. It has a light, fresh scent that smells natural rather than heavily fragranced or synthetic, though Blueland also offers fragrance-free refill options. Their hand soap features a microplastic-free formula made with plant- and mineral-based ingredients. The pump is easy for my 4.5-year-old to use, and our whole family loves the thick, bubbly foam it creates.

Now on to sparkling-clean dishes. Blueland offers a unique powdered dish soap that pairs with its refillable Dish Soap Forever Shaker. The shaker is made from silicone, giving it a soft, flexible feel. Admittedly, I don’t love the look of the shaker — it isn’t the most elegant addition to my sink, and I’d still love to see a glass option. That said, the powdered soap provides a more substantial scrubbing experience than traditional liquid dish soap. I was pleasantly surprised that, though it’s a powder, it still turns into a soapy foam and works especially well on stuck-on food.

Also included is Blueland’s Scrub Sponge for dishes. Like the Pop-Up Sponge, it arrived completely flat and expanded to its full size once water was added. My favorite dish-cleaning product, however, has to be the Dishwasher Detergent Tablets, which come in the adorable refillable Forever Tin. It’s a simple, attractive way to store dishwasher detergent, and the tin fits neatly under my sink.

Laundry
Laundry is an ever-rotating duty in my daily life. But using Blueland’s laundry system makes it a lot more enjoyable. Their Laundry Detergent comes in a unique tablet form. Instead of putting it inside a typical detergent slot in your washer, you put it directly into the drum, then add the clothes on top. For storage and refill, it comes with the cutest Laundry Detergent Forever Tin.

I’ve learned as a mom of little ones to always have stain remover and a laundry booster on hand. Blueland’s Oxi Laundry Booster also comes with a Forever Tin and features a unique measuring system on the lid for easy addition to any load. My clothes come out a lot cleaner and brighter with the oxi laundry booster.

So, is Blueland worth the switch?
After several weeks of using Blueland’s nontoxic cleaning system, I can confidently say I’m a fan. I adore the (mostly) plastic-free experience and the more compact storage systems.

Now you might be wondering, like I was, how their refill system works. Their refill subscription is innovative. Instead of charging every month, refill orders are delivered and billed every three months (or every six months for some products), so you’re purchasing several months’ worth of supplies at once. A total order for a variety of refills will cost around $60 every three months, though prices vary depending on what you need. As a busy parent, I love not having to remember to buy dish soap or cleaning tablets — they simply arrive before we run out.
For those not wanting to wait for Blueland products to arrive in the mail, their products are also sold in many big-box stores, such as Target, Costco, Whole Foods Market, Kroger, HEB, and Meijer. Use their location finder on their website to find a store near you that carries their products.
Additionally, the brand is sold on Amazon, and Prime members receive an even bigger discount. For those just starting out with Blueland, I highly recommend grabbing their full Clean Suite Kit. It’s a flat rate of $110, and it includes everything you need to kick-start your plastic-free cleaning journey. As an added bonus, Blueland offers a 100-day free return for any product that didn’t work quite right.

Blueland isn’t just about cleaner countertops — it’s about creating a cleaner, simpler way to care for your home. Of course, no product is perfect, and Blueland won’t be the right fit for every budget. But for our family, the convenience, reduced plastic waste, and peace of mind that come with using nontoxic products have made the switch easy.
