How airlines could help contain Russian plague using lessons from past outbreaks


The man sitting on the plane a couple rows from infectious-disease expert David O. Freedman was sweating profusely and clearly looked sick. The flu? Covid-19? Something worse? Freedman couldn’t tell. But just before takeoff, he watched a flight attendant speak with the man briefly and then return with the pilot, who felt the passenger presented too much of a risk to make the flight.
