Hawaiian Airlines Marks oneworld Entry With Special “Aloha” Airbus A330 Livery

Hawaiian Airlines has showcased a special livery on one of its Airbus A330 widebodies to celebrate its entry into the oneworld alliance. The Honolulu-based carrier joined oneworld earlier this year, the first time in its 96-year history that it has joined an airline alliance.

The new design has the Hawaiian phrase “Aloha a puni ka honua” — which translates to “Aloha all around the world” — written beneath a prominent oneworld banner. Hawaiian is the third US-based member of oneworld, joining American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

Hawaiian unveiled the jet on June 30 during an event at its Charles I. Elliott Maintenance and Cargo Facility in Honolulu. Having formally joined oneworld in April, Hawaiian retained its identity on the livery, including the iconic Pualani figure on the tail and a maile lei around the fuselage, along with the added Hawaiian-language phrase and oneworld branding.

According to the carrier, “Aloha all around the world” demonstrates the growing reach of Hawaiian’s international network, with its oneworld membership opening up connectivity to nearly 1,000 destinations across 170+ countries. The carrier has also been busily developing its transpacific presence, resuming flights to the likes of Auckland and strengthening existing connections with Japan.

Alongside the unveiling, Hawaiian donated $10,000 each to ʻIolani Palace and the Polynesian Voyaging Society, two of its partners in preserving Hawaii’s culture and traditions. Alisa Onishi, Managing Director of Hawaiʻi Marketing at Hawaiian Airlines, commented:

“This livery is a powerful symbol of what it means for Hawaiian Airlines to be part of the oneworld alliance — sharing aloha, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and our deep connection to Hawaiʻi with more people around the globe. We are deeply proud to share our culture, our values and our aloha with the world.”

The Last Hawaiian Widebodies

The choice of aircraft was one of Hawaiian’s 24 A330-200 jets, a plane utilized across its domestic and international network. The airframe bears the registration N375HA and is still relatively young at 11 years old. The widebody has flown exclusively with Hawaiian since its delivery to the carrier in February 2015, seating up to 278 passengers in two cabin classes.

Since transferring its small Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet to Alaska Airlines, the A330 is the last remaining widebody type in Hawaiian’s fleet, placing it at the center of its Asia-Pacific operations. Hawaiian previously had four 787-9 jets in its fleet, operating the type for less than two years. These aircraft have since joined Alaska’s fleet and been repainted with the airline’s new ‘Global’ livery, a scheme that draws heavily on the Northern Lights.

Along with its 24 A330-200s, Hawaiian has ten A330-300s, but the latter are used exclusively for cargo operations as part of a deal with Amazon Prime Air. The carrier is investing heavily in its A330-200s as part of its Kahuʻewai Hawaiʻi Investment Plan, a five-year program worth more than $600 million. This will see the airline introduce its first premium economy recliners, while replacing the current 2-2-2 business class with 1-2-1 suites that offer direct aisle access, among other enhancements.

Hawaiian’s new membership in oneworld significantly improves the alliance’s connectivity across the Pacific, while also giving Hawaiian customers access to almost 1,000 destinations worldwide. The alliance has previously noted its shortcomings in the region, but has turned this around with the recent additions of Hawaiian and Fiji Airways, as well as the planned addition of Philippine Airlines in 2027.

With its 100th anniversary only a few years off, Hawaiian has several initiatives in the works to bolster its product and identity. This includes a brand-new flagship lounge in the works at Honolulu (HNL), which is set to open at Terminal 1 by the end of 2027.
