GTA Online’s Kortz Center Heist gets release date, first details

The next big heist coming to Grand Theft Auto Online will turn players into art collectors — and art thieves, as Rockstar Games has detailed the online multiplayer game’s forthcoming Kortz Center Heist. If you’ve ever dreamed of pulling off your own elaborate Louvre heist, Grand Theft Auto-style, or just want to adorn your mansion with fine art, the Kortz Center Heist update is for you.

Launching on July 14, the Kortz Center Heist will task GTA Online players with staking out the titular museum, plotting their approach, and pilfering paintings, which can then be stored in their mansion. What makes the Kortz Center Heist sound even more fun is that you’re not just going to be leaving blank walls in Grand Theft Auto’s take on the Getty Museum: You’re going to be replacing them with forgeries.

That’s right: The first step in pulling off an elaborate art heist will require GTA Online players to have an art studio where a gifted counterfeiter will recreate the artwork that they intend to swipe. Players will then have to scope out the art museum, “snap candid photos of the paintings on the walls without alerting security, and ascertain how to get in and out of the cultural foundation unscathed.”

“Approach solo, or with a crew of up to three other players — having extra hands may help you escape with more,” Rockstar says. “Raf will be your point man for the Heist, sharing reconnaissance and vital intel as you execute your well-prepared plans.”

Players can apparently choose to fence their ill-gotten artwork or display it privately at their mansion. Rockstar offers a teaser of some of the paintings that players can expect to acquire, including a parody of David Hockney’s Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), an L.S. Lowry-inspired painting with San Andreas characters, and a Baroque-style work based on Grand Theft Auto 4‘s “Deal” ending. Rockstar promises “three new paintings to steal each week and tons of variability in how you approach them.”

The Kortz Center Heist is coming to GTA Online on July 14. The game’s latest heist should make the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 a little easier.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. With no news yet on what GTA 6‘s online component might be, GTA Online will need to serve as players’ fix for now.
