PARIS — Tiffany & Co. kicked off Paris Fashion Week with a soirée to mark the beginning of its four-year partnership with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs around Jean Schlumberger’s archive.

The American jeweler staged a private presentation, in collaboration with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, showcasing a sampling of the 10,000 items, including 5,000 drawings and just as many personal papers and photographs in the hands of the French museum since 1994.

Guests including Camille Cottin and Greta Lee stopped to marvel at a display with photographs and personal papers from Schlumberger, an otherwise private and discrete figure who was part of Paris’ Café Society.

Interspersed with photographs of him taking in the Tuileries garden from the balcony of Le Meurice, or summering in the South of France at the estate of the Prince and Princesse de Polignac, were letters.

One from Christian Dior was addressed to “mon Johnny” while another came from Jacqueline Kennedy, telling him how she’s worn a jewel clip and completing her explanation with a little sketch.

Diane Kruger, wearing a strapless Erdem gown with panniers, said drawing is a popular family activity in her household.

“I have a 7-year-old daughter, so we actually draw a lot,” she said. “Duolingo also does a sketching app. It teaches you how to shade and draw, and she loves it. So we do it as a family at night. It’s really amazing.”

Ditto for Amanda Seyfried: “I enjoy watching my daughter draw. And I also enjoy watching drawing on Instagram.”

“Andor” and “Hit Man” actress Adria Arjona was upfront about her limitations with a pencil in hand. “I could draw a SpongeBob. That’s as far as I can go,” she demurred.

That said, she enjoyed discovering the delicately colored sketches by Schlumberger, displayed under dim lights to protect them prior to a full restoration.

“It almost felt like a behind-the-scenes of the designing process,” she said. “You never get to see the piece and the sketch, which I thought was really cool.”

Arjona said she would finish off her Paris sojourn by taking in a Celine Dion concert with her mother, Leslie Torres.

Kruger was leaving for Bolivia the next morning.

“I’m making a movie right now about Beate Klarsfeld and Serge Klarsfeld,” she said. “They were Nazi hunters. They’re still alive. You should look them up. It’s really fascinating. They brought down Klaus Barbie in Bolivia.”

Asked if jewelry has ever played a role in one of her films, Kruger mentioned she can be seen next year a series on Apple TV in which she plays the first lady of France.

“So a lot of the official engagements that my husband and I attend, they feature a lot of jewelry,” she said.

“Dune” star Anya Taylor-Joy said she considered herself lucky to have worn a number of Schlumberger pieces as part of her ongoing role as a global ambassador for Tiffany & Co.

“I think it’s always beautiful to see the origin of those pieces, and so to see the drawings is quite magical,” she said after taking in the displays.

For the evening, she’d paired a black bustier sheath with one of the latest Bird on a Rock necklaces, a lovely diamond line finished with two plumed motifs in flight, and a matching bracelet.

Asked if she drew, Taylor-Joy admitted to being terrible at it, but nonetheless considered it “an important hobby” of hers.

“I like to do something that I’m bad at because I think it’s good to be a kid at something again,” she said, naming ink pens and more recently markers as her preferred implements.

“I’m trying to calm myself through drawing,” she added. “I find meditative drawing really helpful, and then sometimes I try and draw my dreams, and that ends up terribly because I am a terrible artist in that regard — but I like that.”
