The spell of good weather is far from over, but by this point in the season, even your go-to summer favourites can start to lose a little of their shine. If you’re feeling that way, rather than investing in an entirely new outfit, I’d recommend making one small addition to enhance your summer rotation.

Courtesy of Jennifer Lopez, who I recently spotted on holiday swapping classic black flip-flops for a sophisticated gold pair, my summer wardrobe is about to get a whole lot more elevated. Styled with a white cotton minidress, the metallic sandals enhanced the lightness of her look rather than grounding it, as black leather flip-flops inevitably would.

There’s something inherently elevated about gold footwear. While it’s not your typical neutral, it’s just as versatile—its pale shade wearing well with many others. Unlike cream or beige, gold adds a little extra depth and dimension to an outfit, whilst tying in with gold jewellery to create a sense of cohesion that always feels considered.
