Godzilla Minus Zero has finally crested the waters and entered the spotlight two years following the release of director Takashi Yamazaki’s original smash hit. The highly anticipated sequel to Godzilla Minus One, which stars Japan’s favorite kaiju, made its debut at CinemaCon 2026 on Tuesday, where even Godzilla’s roar can’t be tamed.

Little is known about the plot of Minus Zero ahead of its trailer reveal, but Japanese stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe are expected to reprise their roles as Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, respectively. However, most surprising of all is the series’ purported return to the Big Apple.

According to reports from DiscussingFilm at CinemaCon, the first official trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero will feature the King of the Monsters “in a larger, much more menacing form” stomping through the streets of New York City. In one scene, Godzilla passes by the Statue of Liberty, signaling the monstrosity’s return to the city that never sleeps, his first appearance there since 1998’s Godzilla. He likely won’t be welcomed back with open arms.

It’s unclear how Minus Zero will expand to the West, given the original movie’s focus on Japan in the midst of World War II. But it seems that the U.S. will be to blame for Godzilla’s transformation and perhaps his resurgence in the sequel. The end of Minus One doesn’t exactly leave open the question of Godzilla’s return. The real test for the sequel’s main characters will be strategizing with U.S. forces at the height of Cold War tensions.

The debut trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero hits the internet at 4 p.m. PDT/7 p.m. EDT, giving us our first look at Godzilla as a New York City tourist after nearly 28 years. You won’t want to miss it.

Godzilla: Minus Zero opens in North American theaters on Nov. 6. The film will premiere three days earlier in Japan.
