George Bell: Essex sign wicketkeeper from Lancashire

Essex have signed wicketkeeper George Bell from Lancashire on a permanent two-year deal after a productive loan spell last season.

The 24-year-old made three Essex appearances at the end of the 2026 campaign, scoring a half-century in each match.

“I believe this is an environment that will help me to develop my game further and hopefully contribute to Essex wins and trophies,” Bell told the club’s website., external

Bell made his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2022, and has represented England at under-21 level. Across 37 first-class matches, he has scored more than 1,400 runs, including nine half-centuries, with a high score of 99.

Essex’s director of cricket, Chris Silverwood, said: “Not only were George’s performances impressive on the field, but the way he carried himself, his attitude, work ethic and mindset also impressed us.

“We felt George had more than earned the opportunity to join us on a permanent deal, and we are delighted to now have him. He has already shown what he can bring to the team, and we are all excited about his addition to the squad.”
