
Wes Mendes has once again been honored by the ACC, being named the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for baseball on Tuesday. He majored in social science and earned a 4.00 GPA during the spring 2026 semester. He earned All-ACC Academic Team accolades both years at Florida State.
He was one of 11 FSU players to make the All-ACC Academic Team. Junior outfielder Brayden Dowd, junior right-handed pitchers Chris Knier, Bryson Moore, Cade O’Leary, and Cole Stokes, junior left-handed pitchers Kevin Mebil and Cooper Whited, junior outfielder Chase Williams, sophomore shortstop Gabe Fraser, and sophomore infielder/outfielder Noah Sheffield were also honored.

Mendes had a sensational 2026 season as FSU’s No. 1 pitcher, making five All-American teams and being named the ACC Pitcher of the Year. He was also named to the ABCA Southeast All-Region First Team, the CSC Academic All-District Team, and was an All-ACC First Team honoree. He was a Dick Howser Trophy and National Pitcher of the Year semifinalist and earned two ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades and several National Team of the Week honors.
The lefty finished the year with a 2.81 ERA in 93.0 innings, going 9-1 in 16 starts. He held opponents to a .207 batting average and struckout 125 batters and walked 25. He is expected to be an early-round draft pick in the 2026 MLB Draft.
