Following some instances of Forza Horizon 6 players losing saves and ending up having to start over from scratch, developers Playground Games are starting to roll out fixes. For PC folks, they’re advising a check that the latest version of Microsoft Gaming Services is running, as the app is the way PC-centric fixes for the issue are being rolled out.

“Our team is investigating an issue impacting some Forza Horizon 6 players where game save progress may be lost or reset,” Playground’s support team wrote in a notice. The advised any affected players to open a ticket on the Forza Support website the same day the save’s lost and playing the game or creating any new saves until the support team have looked into the case.

For those of us playing on Windows PC via either the MS Store or Steam fortunate enough not to have lost a garage worth of customised Peel P60s, the advice of writing is to make sure that your version of the Microsoft Gaming Services app is running version 37.114.10001.0 or higher. You can check that by heading to your system settings, then apps and installed apps. Search through the installed apps for Gaming Services, then click the ellipsis and open up advanced options. In there will be a big long version number like the one earlier in this paragraph. If it’s not up to date, you’ll need to set that in motion by opening the downloads section of the Microsoft Store, checking for updates, and setting Gaming Services away updating.

Beyond that, take care to make sure you exit the game properly via the menu, rather than ducking out mid-loading screen for example, and give the game “at least a few minutes” to sync progress with the cloud after exiting before you then knock your PC off. Maybe set up a mandatory five minutes of trying to doodle whichever hatchback you’ve just slapped an anime girl-heavy livery on, just to make sure the save mechanisms have had time to do their thing.
