I loved 2024’s Lorn’s Lure, the megastructure exploration game with the handsome climbing axes, but it took me a while to get the better of the whole “repeatedly falling and dying” element. I imagine a few megastructure lovers were deterred by this. Fine, says developer Rubeki, here’s The Hollowing – another megastructure game set in the same narrative universe, but this time, with an airplane.
OK, so the plane looks like it’s made out of barbed wire and horseshoes, and yes, you’ll need to refuel it, but at least you won’t be resetting every 60 seconds because you can’t walk in a straight line across a girder, eh? Providing you have the “skill and concentration” required to be a pilot, anyway.

Come, wipe off that frowny face. All you have to do is buzz along to the next comms tower, land on an airstrip, fix whatever needs fixing, rinse and repeat. Follow the lights. Do not fly into the clouds of spores. Do not question your handler. Nothing is trying to talk to you through the white noise on your radio.
There’s a demo for The Hollowing on Steam. I’ve yet to play it, but I figured you Gormenghastans (Gormenghast stans) and Blamiacs (Blame! maniacs) would fancy a try, as may people who’ve played Yedoma Globula. The full game launches later this year.
