Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week

TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

G7 meetings

Prime Minister Mark Carney will be in Évian-les-Bains, France, at the G7 summit which begins on Monday. The meeting, which U.S. President Donald Trump is also expected to attend, comes as a deadline for the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement looms on July 1. Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who recently met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, has said he expects further talks at the G7 meeting.

Housing data

A pair of housing reports are expected this week, starting with May housing start figures from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. on Monday. The report will be followed by the Canadian Real Estate Association’s release of May home sales figures on Tuesday.

Economic data

A trio of economic reports that will help offer a picture of how the second quarter began are expected this week. Statistics Canada is scheduled to release its monthly survey of manufacturing and wholesale trade reports for April on Monday followed by retail sales figures on Friday.

Shopify annual meeting

Shopify Inc. will host its annual general meeting Tuesday. The e-commerce software company is expected to face a shareholder proposal from the United Church of Canada’s pension plan, calling on Shopify to adopt a formal policy governing its use of AI.

Groupe Dynamite results

Groupe Dynamite Inc. will report its first-quarter results before markets open on Tuesday. The clothing retailer, which operates under the Garage and Dynamite banners, has posted strong gains in sales in recent quarters as it looks to grow the brands in the United Kingdom and the U.S.
