FitFlop is teaming up with size inclusive designer Ester Manas for fall.

The collection includes five silhouettes across 13 colorways and centers around the FitFlop mule. Reimagined through the designer’s signature perspective, the silhouette is seen in three interpretations and are made with pony hair uppers and a sharper squared-off toe that subtly elongates the foot, delivering what Manas describes as “minimal effort, maximum impact.”

And for Manas, who founded her eponymous brand alongside Balthazar Delepierre in 2019, the new shoe collection with FitFlop came about “organically.”

“We were quite excited to work with FitFlop because we are not doing any shoes in our main line,” Manas told FN in an interview. “So, for us, it was also quite a challenge to imaging something with FitFlop because we are not footwear designers by trade. But even in terms of design, it was a new lane for us to work together on this project, which we enjoyed.”

For his part, Delepierre added that the tie-up brings forward the notion that fashion doesn’t have to sacrifice comfort and technique for good design.

“It’s funny because at the beginning when we first thought about working with FitFlop we really do come from two different worlds,” Delepierre said. “And while we are both two distinctive brands, we do approach design around the concept of ‘fit’ and creating a good fit for everybody. This is what excited us the most about working together.”

Inspired by the women who surround and influence Manas’ work, the collection includes the PlatFForm Pony platform mules in lemon yellow, olive yellow, olive, dark merlot and ebony colorways and the Delicato Pony mules — a low-profile silhouette that comes in all black, olive yellow and ebony colorways.

Next is the Gen-FF Back Strap mules, which feature a cushioned sole and buckled strap to secure the foot. This style comes in chocolate brown, dark merlot and olive colorways. The collection finishes with two sneaker styles — the Retro Q FF Trainer and the Dash FF Trainer.

Louise Noble, chief product and brand officer at FitFlop, described Manas as having a “unique ability” to create pieces that “feel desirable, expressive and deeply considered all at once.”

“What makes her work so distinctive is that it never asks women to choose between confidence, individuality and great design,” Noble said. “She brought an entirely new energy to this project and encouraged us to look at silhouette, materiality and proportion in a different way. That’s what makes this collection feel so special.”

The FitFlop x Ester Manas collection will release on Sept. 3 across two key moments — an exclusive edition of just 96 individually numbered pairs worldwide and the broader capsule that will be available at FitFlop.com and select retailers.
