A First Nation “facing unprecedented danger” in northern Manitoba declared a crime and addiction-related state of emergency on Wednesday, saying a lack of police services is at least partly to blame.
A news release shared by the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) said a councillor was attacked in the remote, northern, fly-in community of Sayisi Dene First Nation.
The First Nation is located about 325 kilometres north of Thompson, Man., and has less than 300 registered members on its own reserve, according to government of Canada data.
