Favorites emerging for four-star QB Hunter Fujikawa but game day visits could be tough

Mililani (Hawaii) junior quarterback Hunter Fujikawa is among the top quarterbacks out West in the ’28 class but a tight game schedule will make it tough for any game day visits this fall.

Fujikawa is a player we’ve been watching since he was a freshman. We’ve seen at multiple events over the last couple of years and he flashes one of the biggest arms in the class.

He has a well put together 6-foot-2, 210 pound frame and is a plus athlete and tested well at the recent Under Armour Next Camp in Maui in July.

Here was our eval of Fujikawa following the UA Camp:

“Fujikawa is on the short list when talking about the top quarterbacks out West in the ’28 class. He’s a box checker and has all the traits you want to see in a young signal caller. He has the frame, arm talent and looks comfortable throwing on the move. You can tell he has worked hard on his body over the last year and looks noticeably stronger and more filled out in his upper body. He can change speeds and throw with touch when needed and has one of the higher ceilings in his class.”

On the recruiting front, Fujikawa has a solid list of schools he said are currently recruiting him the hardest.

“The schools on me hardest are Washington, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, and Arizona State,” Fujikawa said. “I really want to try and take some visits to see a game but unfortunately, our schedule makes that tough.

“We play so many games on Saturdays or late Friday nights that I don’t think I’ll be able to get out to see anyone. I don’t plan on making a decision anytime soon so I haven’t fully narrowed my list down. Right now, I’m just focused on our season and don’t plan to commit until next Spring.”

Fujikawa was plenty active over the spring and summer and took visits to Alabama, BYU, Cal, Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.

The Huskies were a childhood favorite for Fujikawa and they have a former Mililani QB on the roster in Treston McMillan. Oregon is another school that has always recruited the Islands well and Dillon Gabriel is a Trojan alum as well.

“Oregon was a huge offer,” Fujikawa said. “I worked out for them back in January and coach Koa (Ka’ai) offered. I’ve camped with them in the past as well and really like the football program and the coaching staff. That one was special for sure.”

Fujikawa visited Ole Miss and Alabama back to back days in June and raved about both SEC schools.

“At Alabama, I spent time with all the coaches including coach (Kalen) DeBoer,” Fujikawa said. “I met with coach (Bryan) Ellis, the QB coach and coach (Ryan) Grubb as well. They have a great offense, very QB friendly and I like the fit.

“The staff at Ole Miss was very welcoming as well. I met with coach (Pete) Golding and Joe Judge, the QB coach and I loved the vibes there and look forward to getting back at some point.”

UCLA made a positive impression as well.

“A lot of the coaches including coach Chesney weren’t there on my visit but it was still a good time,” Fujikawa said. “I talked with coach Chesney after the visit and he’s a great coach and has won everywhere he has been so I’m excited to follow them this season.”

Fujikawa was able to visit Stanford while in town for the NorCal Elite 11 Regional in April.

“I had a great visit and coach (Tavita) Pritchard offered me while I was there so that was great,’ Fujikawa said. “I was also to meet with not just coach Pritchard but Andrew Luck as well and that was awesome.”
