Fall 2026 Shoe Trends: Western, Animal Print and Calf Hair

Animal print shoes seem to be everywhere at the moment, from Copenhagen Fashion Week to the prevalence of reptilian boots. What’s next for fall 2026 in the animal print realm? All signs point to the rise of calf-hair styles.

The craze for animal print calf-hair shoes was signaled earlier in the year with the release of Matthieu Blazy’s spring 2026 Chanel collection, which featured a wide range of shoes including croc-embossed styles and calf-hair silhouettes. One specific style stood out and catapulted to viral fame: a pair of calf-hair ballet flats showcasing a twist on the house’s signature cap-toe design: a speckled fawnlike print on the toe contrasting a leopardlike print across the rest of the upper.

The shoes became a red-hot item, and are currently nowhere to be found on the Chanel website but are listed on resale platforms for steep prices. The same cap-toe blend of prints was applied to a block heel slingback, which is still listed on the Chanel website, alongside other fuzzy animal print styles from the Métiers d’art 2026 collection and spring 2026 collection.

It’s not just luxury designers getting behind the textural animal print trend, either. Ugg just dropped its Western Collection with plenty of calf hair styles involved, including the $700 women’s buckled tall boot with leather whipstitch detailing along the shaft; the classic tall Western with leather straps and functional buckles adorning a removable shaft with a plain suede boot beneath; and clogs and sneakers featuring the brown and white speckled calf hair look.

This summer also brought about the limited-edition Longhorn Collection from the men’s designer shoe brand Taft, which, per an official description, “reimagines the spirit of the American West through the lens of modern Italian craftsmanship.” The collection spanned four signature silhouettes including the The Dylan Jodhpur boot, The Glen Chelsea boot, The Jack penny loafer and The Luke driving loafer featuring cream-and-brown dappled haircalf leather and Western-inspired whipstitching.

In the sneaker world, too, pony hair is on the rise, from Westside Gunn’s first Saucony collaboration featuring pony hair paneling in a variety of natural and unnatural animal prints, to Adidas’ new “Deer Print” take on the Samba with a brown and white pony hair upper and pink accents.

In the celebrity realm, Katseye member Lara Raj just showcased hairy tiger print boots on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as part of the girl group’s coordinated animal print aesthetic (each showcased a different print). And Kylie Jenner’s brand Khy just officially unveiled its first shoe collection which was created in partnership with Gia Borghini — the three silhouettes center around four fabrications, one of which is chocolate pony hair.

As autumn nears, time will tell how consumers continue to respond to brands pushing calf-hair shoes.
