Face Reality Delivers Personalized Acne Care With Proven Results

Since launching more than two decades ago, Face Reality has become a leader in the acne space. Built as a brand exclusively for licensed skin care professionals, the company has seen eight years of consecutive year-over-year growth.

On this episode of WWD Voices presented by Face Reality, Kathryn Hopkins, senior beauty editor at WWD and Beauty Inc. sat down to chat with Jeremy Soine, chief executive officer at Face Reality, and Deanna Fleming, chief revenue officer, to chat about the brand’s approach to acne skin care, the overall evolution of the acne space, what sets the brand apart in the market and more.

Jeremy Soine, chief executive officer at Face Reality.

“Acne has evolved a lot,” Soine explained. “It has moved from being a mass over-the-counter and prescription category to being much more holistic and personalized — centered around professional care. There are two big things that changed: awareness and expectations.”

Moreover, Soine noted that acne has come a long way from being solely seen as a teenager-only or quick-fix issue — many adults are still affected by this skin care problem. The two main products available on the market in the beginning were either Proactiv or over-the-counter products that were geared with a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Nowadays, the shift has become toward working with professional or medical advisers, with consumers looking for clinically proven results. This rise can also be attributed to the growing number of med-spas and aestheticians, as well as a well-educated consumer.

Face Reality now has more than 10,000 experts in the market helping clients with personalized care. Notably, with the clinically proven acne system Face Reality has created, the brand did a study and found that 80 percent of its 60 participants saw clear skin; Soine noted those are the same results as Accutane — but without the side effects of the prescription.

“Face Reality is singularly focused on acne, which makes us unique,” Fleming said. “There are other brands on the market that do a little bit of everything, but this allows us to be incredibly specialized and go in-depth. We’ve built a community of acne experts and our certified partners with the Clear Skin Method. And we enable them with tons of education. Our biggest point of differentiation is that we deliver results that clients and patients deserve.”
