Ex-NFL DE Marcellus Wiley’s domestic battery case dismissed due to lack of evidence in Florida

Former NFL defensive end and broadcaster Marcellus Wiley’s domestic battery case is over.

Prosecutors in Florida opted not to pursue charges in Wiley’s case after his arrest last month, according to both USA Today and TMZ. Monday’s decision, per the reports, came after testimonial evidence received in the case was “not corroborated by any physical or other evidence.”

Wiley was first arrested on July 4 in Orlando, Florida, on one count of domestic battery. Wiley’s wife told police that he had poked her in the face with his finger and threatened to kill her, and that he had “an unreported history of violence toward her,” via the The Los Angeles Times. Wiley was released the next day on bond.

Wiley’s wife, Annemarie Wiley, a former cast member of “The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills,” later accused him of rape and said that he physically abused her and their children. A California judge granted a temporary restraining order against him last month, and she filed for divorce the same day.

Wiley has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault in civil lawsuits previously, too. He has denied the allegations against him, made both by those women and his wife.

Wiley spent a decade in the league, first with the Buffalo Bills after they selected him with the No. 52 overall pick in 1997. He spent time with the San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars before retiring after the 206 campaign. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2001 with the Chargers, when he racked up 48 total tackles and a career-high 13 sacks. After his playing career ended, Wiley spent time working as a broadcaster with ESPN and Fox Sports.
