Echoes of Delicious in Dungeon ring out in Deep Dish Dungeon, a co-op dungeon crawler about making meals with whatever you can scrounge up that’s out now

I would really like it if someone made a Delicious in Dungeon game. It doesn’t have to be official, it can be legally distinct! I’ve been asking for over two years now! I imagine I’ll have to keep waiting, but luckily for me, a new game is out today which certainly feels reminiscent of the delightful (and morbid) anime, while still going for its own thing: Deep Dish Dungeon, a co-op dungeon crawler about making do with the ingredients you find that has a dash of Metroidvania elements.

On the surface, Deep Dish Dungeon looks like a… sigh, friendslop game (I don’t like the term either). It certainly doesn’t seem to be as curated as Big Walk, but the game’s titular dungeon is apparently “handcrafted,” so I don’t imagine it’s necessarily an infinitely replayable type deal. Amongst all the dungeoneering you’ll be doing, which includes fighting skeletons and solving puzzles, you’ll also be able to craft some tools and, importantly to your survival, cook up meals.

This is where that Delicious in Dungeon comparison comes in. I don’t think it’s quite as eclectic as the anime is, there are different recipes you can learn and unlock, but you won’t exactly be having gourmet meals like Laios and co do. Sometimes all you get is a humble pie or corn and beans. It is important to make progress on collecting those recipes though, as the better recipes you get, the more options you have for stat boost. Turns out cooking your own meals is a worthwhile endeavour!

There are also a bunch of puzzly elements to figure out as you make your way throughout the dungeon, and enemy behaviours apparently require distinct reactions, you can’t just go swinging your weapons willy nilly. I’m also not entirely sure where the Metroidvania elements come into it, but that’s for you to discover I suppose. You can also only play with up to two of your friends (or enemies, I won’t judge), but it can be played solo. I imagine it’ll be a touch more designed around co-op play, however, so keep that in mind. If any of this takes your fancy, then you can pick up Deep Dish Dungeon on Steam right now.
