Eagles fans navigate new tailgating rules


New policies for tailgaters were put to the test Sunday as fans flocked to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex to cheer on the Eagles.

Under the new policy, oversized vehicles can no longer choose their own parking locations and instead will be directed to assigned spaces in Lots D and N.

There’s also a price increase for those oversized vehicles.

The updated pricing structure sets the cost at $200 for four spaces and $100 for two additional spots, with a maximum of six spaces.

“It was scary at first, but once you got in, they did a good job of moving people around,” said Roosevelt Turner of Chester, Pennsylvania. “We got here about 9:30 p.m. last night. We have seven vehicles, two with trailers on it.”

“It’s not horrible, it’s like, we would pay for extra spots if we were allowed to. I feel like it’s very crammed and it’s so many empty spaces,” said Lauren Heron of Ambler, Pennsylvania.

“When you raise the prices, you’re gonna have a lot of people who are not going to be able to do this. You know, it’s not fair,” said Lisa Davis of Cheltenham.

Louis Jordan with the Philadelphia Tailgating Association says it was a rocky start from the long unorganized lines to an early morning fight.

“We still have some things to work out. 100-percent. All in all, this is a lot better than what we thought it was going to be,” said Jordan.

The Philadelphia Tailgating Association is set to meet with Sports Complex Parking Venture later this week to discuss what did and what didn’t work and possibly make further changes.
