Don’t default to Sambas. If you’re investing in a new pair of trainers this summer, there are much cooler styles to step into. Case in point: Dua Lipa, who was spotted this week styling track pants and a vivid green T-shirt with one of the season’s most covetable sneaker collaborations.
Choosing the Completed Works X Asics GEL KAYANO™ 20 Black Flower Sneakers (£225), Dua skipped the low-profile trainer trend that’s dominated for the past few years in favour of a fresher silhouette. Whilst Sambas earned cult status for their understated, goes-with-everything energy, Dua’s pair, set on a chunkier sole, leans more sculptural, whilst the black rendering keeps its wearbility in tact.

Complete with beaded floral embellishments, the intricate detailing lends the trainers a softer, summery feel without introducing bold colour. And while the floral accents add personality, the dark colour palette keeps the design feeling modern and timeless. Dua styled hers with sporty track pants, but I can easily picture them with straight-leg jeans or even track shorts for an easy, London-ready summer outfit.
Unsurprisingly, Dua’s exact pair is close to selling out, but there are plenty of black trainers that channel the same mood. Scroll on to shop my edit of the best styles below.
