The Spider-Man movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have run the gamut with post-credit scenes. For the first movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, they went for a funny one, with the Captain America (Chris Evans) PSA about patience, a callback to the PSAs Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his classmates were forced to watch earlier in the film. While comical, that one was pointless and intentionally so.
Spider-Man: Far From Home went in the opposite direction with two crucial reveals. There was the mid-credits scene where Spider-Man’s identity is revealed to the world, an essential plot point heading into the next film and probably something significant enough that it should have been in the film itself. Far From Home also had a post-credits scene where we find out that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was actually the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) during the events of the film. Also, Fury’s Earth-protecting SABER satellite is revealed. This teased something to come for The Marvels and is arguably a more “proper” use of the post-credits or mid-credits scene, which was originally conceived of to tease what’s to come in future movies, but not really affect the events of the film we just watched.
Spider-Man: No Way Home has a mid-credits scene that shows Venom (Tom Hardy) in a bar getting drunk. Then, after getting zapped back to his own universe, we see that he left behind a tiny piece of the symbiote. This one hasn’t been capitalized upon (yet), but it’s also one that properly teases what (maybe) is to come. No Way Home also had a teaser trailer at the end for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which doesn’t really count as a post-credits scene and was really annoying (as is any time they use that slot for a trailer).
So does Spider-Man: Brand New Day have a post-credits scene? And how does it compare to the others? Here are some spoiler-free answers.
Does Spider-Man: Brand New Day have a post-credits scene?
Yes, it does. It almost appears as if it doesn’t at first. There’s no mid-credits scene between the stylized credits and the rest of the credits. Then the actual post-credits scene is placed after some studio logos, but it’s there. If you’re someone who likes to see it all, stick around until the lights come on.
Is the post-credits scene worth sticking around for?
On a scale from “completely useless” (like the Captain America PSA at the end of Homecoming) to “epic game-changer” (like Spider-Man’s identity being exposed at the end of Far From Home), I’d place Brand New Day‘s post-credits scene firmly in the middle. This is because, while it does tease something important for the future, it’s not all that surprising what we see if you know what movies Marvel has coming up. In that sense, it’s a proper “tease,” even if it teases something many already know about.
But if you need to run to the bathroom or anything after the film, and you end up missing it, it’s not the biggest loss.
