A developer’s work is never done! On the very same day it launched, Control Resonant received a hotfix that tackled various complaints that were levied against the game’s combat, making it slightly more manageable for those having a tougher time. While a fuller update won’t be coming until next month, developer Remedy have outlined their plans for the next couple of updates, namely a New Game++ mode, and a photo mode.
“When you beat the main story of Control Resonant, you can still keep playing. Perhaps there’s side quests you haven’t finished yet – or even found out about? You can also discover World Feats, or start it all again in a New Game+ run,” Remedy explain in a Steam blog post. “The current version of New Game+ enables you to beat the game only once more, but we’re preparing an update that will add… wait for it… New Game++, which means you can start NG+ run after NG+ run, without needing to erase all your progress. Do 665 runs if you want!” But maybe don’t do that, seeing as that could take upwards of playing for a year straight to achieve.

Then there’s that photo mode! “Do we need to say anything more?” Well, perhaps a little bit. The action RPG’s photo mode is apparently something Remedy have “been cooking for a while.” They even consulted a handful of virtual photographers to make it as good as it can be. If you’re upset you can’t already be snapping away with a photo mode, Remedy also explained that the priority was getting the game “in the best possible shape” for launch. Currently the plan is to launch the photo mode in November, so, a tad longer of a wait. But seeing as you’ll have that New Game++ mode by then, I’m sure that won’t be a problem. And on top of all this, some new cosmetics will be coming in future updates too!
In any case, will Control: Resonant be even worth photographing? Based on James’ review, I imagine so: “That’s an open world, by the way, that absolutely stands up as a successor to the Oldest House. Not that some concrete-walled cameos are any less welcome, but Resonant manages to spread the original’s New Weirdness wider without it getting thinner. There are still loads of flavoursome oddities painted into the city’s details: redacted files dropped by fleeing agents, billboards making less sense as the patterning around them worsens, disturbed objects falling in the ‘correct’ direction as Dylan uses gravity anomalies to walk on ceilings and walls – meaning a messy, inverted fight can send pallets of detritus shooting up into the air.”
