Prince Edward Island was blanketed with snow overnight, causing delays and closures across the province Tuesday.

English and French schools are closed for the day due to weather and travel conditions.

Island Montessori Academy in Stratford and Cornwall will also be closed for the day.

All Holland College locations, as well as UPEI’s Charlottetown and St. Peter’s Bay campuses will be closed for the day.

The AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital will remain open for emergencies.

Health P.E.I. delays and closures are listed on the provincial health agency’s website. It says Islanders with appointments at hospitals, clinics and other health care services should call ahead to confirm appointments, or notify staff if unable to make it.

All provincial civil service offices in the West Prince area will open at 1 p.m. All other locations in East Prince, Queens, Charlottetown and Kings County will remain closed for the day.

Kings and Queens counties were under a yellow snowfall warning Tuesday morning, while Prince county was issued a special weather statement. All Environment Canada warnings for P.E.I. are no longer in effect.

Snow is expected to taper off in the afternoon, according to the weather alerts.

Wind gusts were picking up moisture and keeping flurries in the forecast earlier in the day, said CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin.

“The wind will slowly but surely subside throughout the evening hours.”
