Except the Cowboys never really did.
Parris Campbell, the wide receiver who was once a second-round draft pick of the Colts and then won a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles, is retiring from the NFL having never caught a pass in 14 months with the Cowboys.

The club officially announced Wednesday they’d be moving the 28-year-old Campbell to the Reserve/Retired List.
Campbell had signed a one-year deal with Dallas in March 2025 and spent the majority of last season on the practice squad. He made one game appearance, playing a total of eight snaps (two on offense, six on special teams) in the Cowboys’ 30-27 loss to Carolina.
He was never targeted with a pass while wearing the star but was credited with one assisted tackle on special teams.
Campbell was a 1,000-yard receiver coming out of Ohio State in 2019 but saw his first four years in the league marred by multiple injuries while with Indianapolis. He then spent the 2023 season with the Giants, turning in only modest numbers. He parlayed that into a new opportunity in Philadelphia in 2024, though the change of scenery didn’t result in an increase in production; he caught six balls during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX-winning season but did not log any stats in the postseason.

Campbell leaves the NFL with 123 catches across 50 game appearances in seven years, amassing 1,117 career yards and six touchdowns.
He walks away from the game with $10.67 million in career earnings.
The Cowboys now reportedly have three open roster spots just before the start of OTAs.
