Cone Denim is leveraging its 135 years of experience in denim to deliver the right balance of newness and stability for Fall/Winter 2027-2028.
“For the design community, we are seeing a desire for newness and novelty, and a search for push forward concepts and fabrics that have a story to tell. For the sourcing community, there is strong awareness of economic developments, including the rise in raw material costs, and how these will affect their bottom line, margins, and new and existing programs,” said Pierette Scavuzzo, Cone Denim’s design director.
Though the milestone is a reflective moment for the mill, the F/W 27-28 collection showcases how Cone is pushing forward with new fiber and dye concepts.
A new Naia Renew and Coolmax AllSeason EcoMade blend is featured in Cone’s new Lelandstretch product. Naia is a closed-loop, cellulosic fiber made from bio-based and recycled content, offering cotton-like softness with a more sustainable footprint. Scavuzzo said blending it with Coolmax All Season technology adds an additional layer of performance through temperature regulation and moisture management.
“This combination delivers an ultra-soft hand feel with a comfortable stretch performance, while maintaining enough body to hold structure without added weight,” she said.
Amp Indigo, Cone’s new family of indigo shades, uses a unique dye process to creates a pronounced ring-dye effect, in which the indigo does not penetrate to the core of the yarn. “The result is a richer, more saturated surface color that enables high-contrast abrasion and faster wash-down compared to conventional indigo shades,” Scavuzzo said.
She added that this translates to a supersaturated dark indigo that can be taken all the way down to a light wash, with significantly less time, water, and processing cost—delivering both aesthetic impact and efficiency to clients.
Cone is seeing a clear return to saturation and depth of color, which plays perfectly into the richness and intensity of the wash, Scavuzzo said. The mill’s key color story for the season is Nightform, a shade concept built around deep indigos, vibrant blue-blacks and ultra-inky blacks that reveal dimension though the wash process.
“The concept is rooted in creating depth and visual texture, offering a more dynamic alternative to traditional flat blacks. It also introduces blue-black as the new black, alongside a refreshed black denim range,” she said. “Overall, it’s a more expressive and directional take on Cone’s indigo heritage, where high saturation delivers both intensity and versatility.”
At the same time, comfort remains essential. Cone’s Easy Vintage capsule taps into the prevalence of more fluid, relaxed silhouettes seen on the runway. Meanwhile the mill continues to deliver more heritage looks with heavier-weight fabrics with extra texture and a new Cone Deeptone Denim selvage to commemorate its 135th anniversary.
