Coco Rocha, the renowned model, entrepreneur and social media celebrity, is returning to the fashion scene with a limited-edition handbag collection for fall.
The Baggallini x Coco Rocha Capsule Collection is a collaboration between Baggallini, a handbag brand known for designing highly functional bags with multiple compartments, and Xcel Brands Inc., the media and consumer products company.
The collection features the oversize Super Bagg, designed with shoe compartments, a padded laptop sleeve, water bottle holders and interior pockets for beauty essentials and other everyday necessities.
“For most of my career, I’ve been constantly on the move, traveling between photo shoots, airports and family life,” Rocha said. “Along the way, I’ve learned that being prepared is one of life’s most underrated luxuries. With this collection, I wanted to create a bag that reflects that reality, something stylish enough for any setting, yet practical and organized enough to keep up with the demands of a busy modern woman. The Super Bagg was designed to carry everything you need while keeping you confident, and ready for wherever life takes you.”
The capsule collection also includes three of Baggallini’s popular silhouettes — the Lexington Backpack, Crescent Convertible Hobo and Central Park Sling — but each style is reimagined in an exclusive olive green colorway selected by Rocha.
Baggallini indicated that it has a licensing arrangement with Rocha and that the partnership starts with the launch of the limited-edition bags. Early access to the collection begins Aug. 17 for Baggallini subscribers and select customers. The line launches publicly on Sept. 17 at baggallini.com and through select retailers.
The veteran Canadian model had a long relationship with Longchamp, has collaborated with Moët & Chandon, has done runway modeling for many top fashion brands including Anna Sui, Versace and Marc Jacobs, and is often seen on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, and other high-profile, celebrity-laden events. She’s notable for her strong presence on social media advocating for models’ rights. Rocha still does runway modeling and is the executive producer, host and judge for “Project Runway Canada.” She also has her model camp, a three-day, immersive experience where she mentors aspiring models and teaches people of all ages, genders and styles about posing, movement, getting pictures to create a portfolio and the business of modeling.
Rocha is considered among the first of the high-profile models to establish a major presence on social media.
“Coco embodies the multifaceted woman we design for, someone who moves through many roles, places and moments with confidence and individuality,” said Lydia Feniger, vice president of marketing at Baggallini, in a statement. “Her experience living life on the move, from runways and photo shoots to business ventures and family life, made her an ideal partner. Together, we created a capsule that blends statement-making style with the thoughtful organization our customers rely on every day.”
Robert W. D’Loren, chairman and chief executive officer of Xcel Brands, said: “This partnership continues Xcel Brands’ vision of connecting influential talent with a lifestyle brand such as Baggallini to create meaningful products for today’s consumer. Coco Rocha’s global influence, entrepreneurial spirit and authentic understanding of the modern woman’s lifestyle made her an exceptional partner for Baggallini. The Super Bagg and the broader capsule collection deliver the perfect balance of style, versatility and function that today’s consumer expects.”
Separately, Xcel is licensed to produce an Off/Duty by Coco Rocha fashion collection that is expected to debut on QVC this fall. An Xcel representative said the company will be managing all partnerships for Off/Duty by Coco Rocha and cobranded collaborations.
Xcel is engaged in the design, licensing, marketing, livestreaming and social commerce sales of apparel, footwear, accessories, fine jewelry, home goods and pet products as well as the acquisition of consumer lifestyle brands. Xcel owns the Halston, Judith Ripka and C. Wonder brands, as well as the Tower Hill by Christie Brinkley; Trust Respect Love by Cesar Millan; GemmaMade by Gemma Stafford, and the Off/Duty by Coco Rocha cobranded collaborations. Xcel is also a partner in the Mesa Mia by Jenny Martinez collection and owns and manages the Longaberger by Shannon Doherty brand through its controlling interest in Longaberger Licensing.
