‘Clueless’ Sequel Series in the Works at Paramount+

Paramount+ has ordered a ‘Clueless’ sequel limited series.
Alicia Silverstone will reprise her role as Beverly Hills stalwart Cher Horowitz.

Back in 1995, Austen met Armani as Amy Heckerling directed ‘Clueless’, a loose adaptation of the 1815 Jane Austen novel ‘Emma’ set in then-contemporary Beverly Hills. With Alicia Silverstone starring as pampered main character Cher Horowitz, it scored at the box office and became part of the pop cultural firmament.

There have been attempts to spin it off before, including a TV series in 1996 that ran for three seasons. A remake movie was mooted in 2018 and CBS Studios has developed two different more recent series for Peacock, one based around Cher’s bestie Dionne (played in the movie by Stacey Dash) and another that stalled there and is now essentially being turned into a limited series at Paramount+.

That new show, which will see Silverstone starring, has ‘The O.C.’ creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and ‘Freakier Friday’ writer Jordan Weiss attached, with Heckerling as an executive producer.

Picking up 30 years after the original film, beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood — that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel “clueless” all over again.
