During a recent appearance on the ‘Chief Concerns’ podcast, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tre Watson discussed the quality of the current team tight end room heading into training camp.
“I think outside of Trav (Travis Kelce), I would say the rest of us are making a name for ourselves because we all feel like once you’re outside of Trav, everybody’s like we felt it this offseason. Don’t nobody believe it,” said Watson. “Felt like nobody believed in anybody else in the room. It’s like, oh, Trav’s leaving; we need to get somebody right now. We need somebody. It’s like, dang, bro, like y’all, (we got) Noah Gray; we got dudes out here. So I think outside of trap, I think that’s the biggest thing is just all making a name for ourselves, proving ourselves, being able to say like, yeah, we got dudes lined up, like we can all go and get it.”
Watson recorded 77 receptions for 872 yards and 5 touchdowns in 46 games over his four-year collegiate career. The former Fresno State Bulldog and Texas A&M Aggie is part of the 90-man roster heading into training camp.

“As a tight end room, I think just the physicality, we want to up that from last year. We feel like, as a room, we didn’t do a great job of that, and go be a dude on the field,” said Watson. “After the whistle, just go be like a menace. Like do some extra stuff. Just be a player dudes don’t like playing. That’s what Coach Mel always tells us. Go be a dude on film where people are looking, and they like, “Dang bro, we gotta deal with this next week.”
Watson will continue to compete for a spot on the depth chart that already features fellow 2025 undrafted tight end Jake Briningstool.
