Canada Infrastructure Bank, criminal justice policy and contaminated sites in the spotlight

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

As part of their ongoing examination of the annual ledger of federal expenditures, PUBLIC ACCOUNTS members will get the chance to question Canada Infrastructure Bank vice-presidents Frédéric Duguay and Steven Robins before heading behind closed doors to work on a draft report. (4 p.m.)

Over at NATIONAL DEFENCE, Terrebonne chief administrative officer Serge Villandré and Shannon Mayoress Sarah Perreault will provide an update on the ongoing remediation of contaminated sites in their respective regions of Quebec. (4:30 p.m.)

Meanwhile, CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION members hear from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Canadian representative Tracey Maulfair, FCJ Refugee Centre in-house counsel Joshua Eisen and former Reform MP Herbert Grubel, now a professor emeritus at Simon Fraser University, as they continue to explore the current state of the immigration system. (4:30 p.m.)

Rounding out the roster, JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS members are set to continue clause-by-clause review of Justice Minister Sean Fraser’s omnibus bid to strengthen current Criminal Code provisions against gender-based violence, as well as expand child protection laws and address concerns over the impact of prolonged court delays. (4:30 p.m.)

On the Senate side, LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS members are still going through the fine print of Fraser’s proposed changes to bail and sentencing laws with senior Statistics Canada officials, as well as representatives from the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform, Macdonald-Laurier Institute deputy director Peter Copeland and Mary Campbell, who previously served as a director general for corrections and criminal justice. (4:15 p.m.)
