Today, the Honourable Ali Ehsassi, Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy (Canada-U.S. Trade), participated in the official opening of the new Consulate of Canada in Phoenix, Arizona, alongside the Ambassador of Canada to the United States, Mark D. Wiseman, and the Governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs, together with a number of distinguished guests and officials.

The opening of the Consulate reflects Canada’s commitment to strengthening the North American economy through sustained engagement, regional partnerships and diversified trade opportunities. At a time of global economic uncertainty and shifting trade dynamics, Canada is working closely with its partners to reinforce integrated supply chains and support long-term competitiveness and growth.

Arizona’s rapidly expanding economy, particularly in sectors such as semiconductors, aerospace, defence and security, advanced manufacturing, agri-food and mining, offers strong potential for deeper trade and investment. Canada’s presence in Arizona will help position Canadian businesses to access these opportunities while supporting U.S. partners seeking to collaborate with Canada.

The new Consulate will provide on-the-ground support to exporters, attract investment to Canada and continue engagement with state and local partners. It reflects Canada’s commitment to maintaining a strategic presence in key U.S. markets and advancing shared economic priorities.

During the visit, Parliamentary Secretary Ehsassi met with Governor Hobbs, elected officials including the President of the Arizona State Senate and the Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, senior private sector executives, Canadian companies active in Arizona, Arizona-based business representatives and senior Arizona officials. He highlighted opportunities for bilateral trade and investment, as well as the importance of continued collaboration to maintain a strong, predictable and mutually beneficial trading relationship, including through the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
