Broncos Wire’s 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie wide receiver Cam Ross, No. 87.
Before the Broncos: Ross (5-10, 186 pounds) had a long college career, spending time at three different colleges: UConn (2019-23), James Madison (2024) and Virginia (2025). During his first season at UConn, Ross started 10 of 11 games played, catching 60 passes for 723 yards and four scores. Ross’ momentum was halted by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, as the Huskies did not play any games during that season. The NCAA gave student-athletes the opportunity of an extra collegiate season of playing time, which many took advantage of, including Ross. In 2021, Ross was limited to just three games played because of an ankle injury, finishing with just eight catches for 60 yards. In 2022, Ross quietly returned to action, before another injury-shortened campaign limited him to two catches for 21 yards. Ross rounded out his time with UConn by starting to become more of a dual-threat option as a receiver and kick returner. Ross caught 44 passes for 552 yards and one touchdown, returning six punts for 31 yards and nine kickoffs for 147 yards.

Ross transferred to James Madison University in 2024, where his stock really took shape as a returner and receiver. In 13 games played, Ross caught 37 passes for 443 yards and three touchdowns, returning 13 kickoffs for 366 yards and one touchdown.
Ross transferred a final time to Virginia, where he had one of his best all-around seasons. As a receiver, Ross snagged 53 passes for 543 yards and two touchdowns, had one rushing attempt for 19 yards and a score. As a returner, Ross ran back both punts and kickoffs for the Cavaliers. Ross ran back 22 punts for 171 yards, and eight kickoffs for 266 yards and one touchdown. Ross was named to Phil Steele’s honorable mention All-America team and Steele’s first-team All-ACC squad. He also earned honorable mention All-ACC recognition as a jack of all trades.
Broncos tenure: At Virginia’s pro day, Ross ran a blazing 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds, but surprisingly went undrafted. Ross was one of 13 players signed by the Denver Broncos as a college free agent immediately after the 2026 NFL draft. Ross has yet to play a snap for the Broncos.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Could be in a returner battle. The Denver Broncos have signed several receiver-returner players, including Ross and fellow undrafted product Kolbe Katsis. This could mean one of several things: the Broncos could be incorporating veteran returner Marvin Mims into the offense more, or they are looking to the future and may be looking to move on from Mims after the 2026 season. Either way, Ross could be in a competition for a returner spot come training camp.
