British Airways is one of ten scheduled operators of the Airbus A380, and the
oneworld member has 12 airframes. You’ll know that they’re being retrofitted and reconfigured, with the total capacity falling from 469 seats to just 421. There will be many more seats in business class and fewer seats in economy, with the equipment becoming much more premium and higher-yielding.
On Sunday, October 25, BA, like other Northern Hemisphere carriers, will switch to winter schedules based on IATA slot seasons. They’ll be maintained through Saturday, March 27, 2027. In this period, the retrofitting process, in particular, means that BA plans only four A380 routes, down from seven last year.
British Airways’ A380s From London Heathrow To Miami
Miami is, of course, an ever-popular Florida destination from London and a key hub of BA’s transatlantic joint venture partner American Airlines. BA has deployed the double-decker quadjet from
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to
Miami International Airport (MIA) for 11 years.
OAG data indicates that the first departure took place in October 2015, although the equipment did not operate during the COVID-19-affected 2020. BA was the third A380 user at MIA, after Lufthansa (June 2011) and Air France (January 2015). Nowadays, the UK carrier remains the only double-decker operator in Florida.
BA has more superjumbo services to MIA in 2026 than in any other year. This is influenced by more months having a double-daily operation than in any previous year. This includes the upcoming winter, with the frequency double what was available last winter.
Frequency In Winter 2026/2027 | LHR To MIA; Local Times | MIA To LHR; Local Times |
|---|---|---|
Daily | BA207: 9:45 AM-2:40 PM (A380) | BA206: 17:10-6:45 AM+1 (A380) |
Daily | BA209: 2:30 PM-7:30 PM (A380) | BA208: 10:00 PM-11:30 AM+1 (A380) |
Heathrow To Johannesburg, San Francisco & Singapore
In the upcoming winter, BA will also deploy the A380 to Johannesburg’s
O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB),
San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). The equipment will be used daily to each of them.
SFO also saw the type daily last winter, while the equipment’s frequency to JNB has been halved, which is notable. The second-daily offering to South Africa’s busiest airport will now be on the Boeing 777-300ER and 787-9.
SIN is a bit different. BA’s double-deckers originally flew there between October 2014 and March 2020, and again from March 2024 until May 2025. The equipment returned again on September 6, 2026, ahead of the winter. LHR-SIN thus has three A380 again after a near one-and-a-half years, with BA joining
Singapore Airlines and Qantas. While there’s not much competition for the title, LHR-SIN has more A380 operators than any other airport pair globally.
Frequency In Winter 2026/2027 | Leg | Local Times | Leg | Local Times |

These Places Will Not See British Airways’ A380s This Winter
In comparison to winter 2025/2026, BA will not fly the superjumbo from LHR to
Dubai International Airport (DXB),
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). To capture peak demand, IAD usually only saw the double-decker during the summer, but had some flights through last November, hence being included. LAX is due to see the equipment on March 28, 2027, while no flights to IAD are scheduled.
The removal of the type from DXB is perhaps not only influenced by the double-decker’s retrofitting, but also by the ongoing war in Iran and the consequences of that on nearby places like Dubai. This is why BA’s overall frequency to DXB, across all aircraft types, is just daily this winter, down from the usual triple-daily offering. It is also why it has suspended flights to Abu Dhabi.
