Dreame Furcatch
$305 (Originally $460)
Having an air purifier running in my home gives me peace of mind. Although I know they can’t catch every single pollutant, a reliable air purifier with a true HEPA filter can do an incredible job at improving your indoor air quality when used correctly, removing at least 99.97% of airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns, such as dust, mold, pollen and bacteria.
This year, CNET’s lab team put a slew of air purifiers through rigorous testing to find the best options. As I was combing through the testing data, it became clear that not all air purifiers are equally effective.
While some excel on low fan, others do much better at cleaning the air on high fan. Some shine at capturing fine particles, while others work best with those on the coarse end of the scale.
But regardless of finding a handful of great air purifiers, one brand stuck out to me the most: Coway. Two separate models from the company nabbed the top two spots on our best air purifier list and earned the number one spot on my personal holiday wishlist. Here’s why Coway stands out, and why I think it’s the best option for most people.

Best air purifier for most people
The Coway Airmega 450
The Coway Airmega 450 is one of the most solid air purifiers we’ve tested over the years. During our most recent lab tests, it cleared 90% of fine particles (T90) in about 49 seconds on high fan. On low fan, it cleared T90 fine particles in a still-impressive 1 minute and 53 seconds.
Fine particles, which can come from wildfire smoke, cooking, fireplaces and industrial pollution, are less than or equal to 2.5 microns. Because of their tiny size, they can be easily inhaled and embed deep into the lungs, which can cause numerous health issues over time. Because of this, I paid close attention to how each unit handled fine particle clearance as I felt that would be one of the greatest factors in a buying decision.
In addition to its impressive particle-clearance performance, it had the best average performance out of all the new units we tested this year.
Although it is not the most affordable option at $499 full price, we have seen it go on steep sales. Right now, it’s marked down to $350, or $149 less than its normal price. It is also much more affordable than its sister unit, which tested well too, the $680 Coway Airmega 400S, which ranges between $680 and $740, depending on the retailer.
If you want a consistent air purifier that can tackle clearing both hazardous fine particles without purchasing the most expensive option available, the Coway 450 is my top recommendation. It also features real-time air quality monitoring and smart modes.
The Dreame Furcatch / Dreame/CNET
Best air purifier on low fan
Dreame Furcatch
Although this unit isn’t a Coway, the Dreame Furcatch still deserves a special shoutout based on its remarkable low-fan lab performance and my hands-on experience using it at home.
This unit surprised our lab team with its results. Particularly when it was set to low fan, it cleared T90 fine particles in 1 minute and 26 seconds, which was 27 seconds faster than the Coway 450, and it cleared coarse particles in exactly 1 minute on low fan. That low-fan performance beat out all of the other units we tested in 2026.
It didn’t perform as well when set to high fan, taking 4 minutes and 4 seconds to clear fine particles, which brought down its overall average score. However, because many people use air purifiers on low fan on a day-to-day basis to keep noise and energy costs low, its low-fan performance still makes it a worthy pick.
The companion app also tracks real-time air quality, TVOC (total volatile organic compounds), temperature and humidity. The AI/Auto mode automatically adjusts the speed and setting based on your current air quality.
I’ve used this unit in my home for months, and I’ve seen the auto-adjust function work as it should. When I was painting a wall about 25 feet away from where the air purifier is, the unit kicked into high gear after detecting TVOCs in the air. This has also happened one other time when I was cooking a meal that got particularly smoky. It’s now discounted by 34%, which drops the usual $460 price to $305.
Although this unit doesn’t perform nearly as well as the Coway unit when set to high fan, its exceptional low-fan performance makes it a great choice for everyday use. On low fan, it stays nearly silent. Plus, its pet-specific features, such as a separate hair-collection chamber that keeps pet fur from going through the filter, so the filter lasts longer, are an extra bonus.

Best Air Purifiers of 2026
Should you wait for Prime Day sales to purchase an air purifier?
Since the next Prime Day sale is right around the corner, it doesn’t hurt to wait and see if these units drop further in price. That said, the Coway Airmega 450 is already $149 off, and Dreame Furcatch is discounted by 34%. We can’t guarantee if that discount will last through the sale, disappear or become even steeper when the official sale begins, but we’ll be updating prices during the event to keep you up to date.
