Bethesda finally “looking into” patching Oblivion Remastered on PC, PS5 and Xbox amid praise for Switch 2 release

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered arrived on Switch 2 earlier this week, immediately drawing praise for its well-optimised state. This is actually a bit of a problem – not because of how it runs on Switch 2, but rather because of how it continues to run on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Those versions of the game continue to suffer from frame pacing and stuttering issues, as well as various bugs the developer never fixed. Oblivion Remastered’s initial release in April last year didn’t receive the post-launch support many expected for such a high-profile title, especially one still plagued with problems.

When Oblivion Remastered arrived on Switch 2 earlier this week, however, comparison videos appeared to show this latest version – which features a number of expected downgrades compared to PC and big-boy consoles – came with notable performance improvements. Whatever Bethesda did hasn’t completely solved the ever-present frame pacing and stuttering issues, but once again, the framerate appears to be smoother on Switch 2.

So are those improvements going to be ported back to the PC, PS5 and Xbox versions? The answer appears to be tentative yes. Following Oblivion Remastered’s release on Switch 2 and the subsequent revival of discussions focusing on the issues still dogging other platforms, Bethesda confirmed that it’s working on giving players what they’ve been requesting.

“We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered,” Bethesda said on X. “The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimisations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”

Indeed, this isn’t the first time Bethesda has hinted it’s going to return to those versions, telling YouTuber MrMattyPlays last month that some of those Switch 2 optimisations “we hope to bring to console/PC.”

Whatever Bethesda has in the works for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, hopefully it’s significant enough to finally improve their technical state.
