Peel and stick wallpaper (also known as renter-friendly wallpaper or removable wallpaper) is having a moment. Increasingly prioritized by the design-minded over alternatives that require the use of adhesive or paste, this trending decor element takes minutes to install and can come off without damaging the surface underneath — be it wall, shelf, or fridge.

A seamless removal process and a hassle-free application are some of the many reasons why renters favor this type of wallpaper above all others, but “functional” certainly isn’t synonymous with “boring” here. While rounding up the best of the best in the category, we came upon dozens of selections that could be confidently placed in the realm of the luxury: being chic, stylish, and worthy of your good taste.

From maximalist renderings of ripe fruit and exotic animals to dainty, feminine offerings like Chasing Paper’s collaboration with NYC accessories brand Susan Alexandra, we sourced and sampled a wide cross-section of the best peel and stick wallpapers sold online to give you honest, tried-and-true advice on the exact styles to shop now, regardless of your interior design aesthetic.

“ [Today’s removable wallpaper boom] stems from shoppers wanting to decorate their apartments with something beautiful and thoughtfully designed but also something that can be taken off when they’re leaving the space, letting them get that security deposit back,” says Elizabeth Rees, founder of the aforementioned Chasing Paper, a pioneer in the peel and stick universe whose every product is sourced from and made in the US. “It’s also about adding personality to a place that’s a little more temporary, while still having it be a real reflection of you.”

13 Best Removable Wallpapers of 2026, Tested & Reviewed

Rees is a big believer in the fact that “ design should be for everyone, no matter what stage of life you’re in,” so it’s safe to say peel and stick decorating solutions can be utilized by bedroom-converting empty nesters and college students settling into their new dorms alike.

In terms of what Chasing Paper’s customer base is gravitating towards in 2026, on a visual level, Rees  says that people are currently “really excited about color, print, and pattern.”

“With regards to specific prints that are doing really well, we’re still seeing a lot of cottagecore, that kind of Nancy Meyers aesthetic. Block prints also continue to sell for us, as well as staples like stripes,” she adds.

Textural and layered wallpaper looks are similarly quite en vogue right now, granting organic depth to a room that might otherwise feel small and ordinary.

Rees encourages thinking outside the box (read: beyond the four walls that surround you) when it comes to what you’ll be putting your removable wallpaper on.  ”Smaller DIY projects are great for changing out the wallpaper with the seasons,” she reports, whether that means dolling up a serving tray with a bright floral for spring or lining your bookshelves in a moodier plaid come fall.

Thinking bigger than that? Brittny Button, owner of the interior design firm Button Atelier, shares some fitting inspiration with WWD. “I’m constantly changing the look of my walk-in closet (a space just for me) and my children’s bedrooms (based on what they’re loving at the time),” she tells us. “Removable wallpaper allows for a new theme to transform the space without the permanence of paint.”

These are the 13 top removable wallpapers of 2026, for decor sensibilities spanning Cali-cool, more-is-more, and everything in between. Just remember: Be patient, flex your creative muscles, and don’t forget that X-Acto knife.

EDITOR’S CHOICE

Tempaper & Co. Canopy Toile Faux Grasscloth Peel and Stick Wallpaper

This wallpaper was exceptionally easy to cut, very user-friendly on the whole, and sumptuously textural: courtesy of that faux grasscloth material, imitating the coarseness and natural variations of plant fibers. It was also one of the thickest wallpapers I tested for the article, which meant that the Tempaper & Co. bestseller pretty much lacked any and all air bubbles (commonly referred to as the bane of my existence). I used it to cover my apartment radiator, placing a ceramic Halloween ghost accent piece and some books overtop. The result was more darling — yet grown-up — than I could have ever imagined.

MOST DRAMATIC

York Wallcoverings Clouds on Canvas Peel and Stick Wallpaper

$51

Buy Now at the home depot

Got your head in the clouds? You’ll find a lot to love in this ethereal York Wallcoverings wallpaper, which benefits from a subtle color palette, a smooth underhand feel, and, like its Tempaper counterpart, the complete absence of bubbles — no squeegee needed.

That being said, when I stuck it on a wooden side table left over by the woman who owns my apartment and then promptly undid my work, the sheet took away the top layer of the table’s waxed finish (no one tell her). Be cautious with wood but go all out on actual walls; positioned between two windows, the clouds will unlock a never-before-seen dimension in your abode… or at least come close.

BRIGHTEST

Wallshoppe Orange Crush Peel and Stick Wallpaper by Nathan Turner

Wallshoppe’s Orange Crush wallpaper, created with renowned decorator Nathan Turner, is nothing if not eye-catching. Featuring a blend of “vintage charm [and] modern ease,” as is Turner’s signature, the purchase also takes advantage of eco-conscious paper, has a matte appearance, is made to order, and remains scratch-resistant over time. I decided to adorn my Petite Keep x MacKenzie-Childs custom trunk with this wallpaper, and it couldn’t have been a smarter idea.

Contrasting with the chest’s white body, the detailed leaves and highly saturated fruits were just what my house was missing. Now, the object moonlights as a demi-table that holds literature, writing utensils, and the occasional plated meal (though Turner’s design is nourishing in and of itself). The only downside? Cutting the wallpaper with scissors, as I did, won’t come easy, but it’s more than worth the challenge.

HOLIDAY-READY

Max Humphrey x Chasing Paper Big Gingham Peel and Stick Wallpaper

If you already have Christmas on the brain, you might as well start cosigning gingham prints early. Simple to portion out thanks to those neat squares, Chasing Paper’s collaborative, removable wallpaper with interior designer Max Humphrey is about as Americana as it gets — without ever reading overly traditional.

Standing up to fading and staining, this beaut will be a match made in heaven for a library, kitchen backsplash, or, if you’re to take my advice, the freezer section of a fridge. Though it was a slight pain to install on all that stainless steel, the outcome now makes me rush to retrieve frozen contents like ice trays and ice cream pints — just so I can lay my eyes on the timeless, checkered wallpaper style once more.

MOST CLASSIC

Chasing Paper Linen Stripe Peel and Stick Wallpaper

As Rees mentioned, trends come and trends go, but the classic stripe is forever. Express your love for vertical lines — and the butter-yellow hue — with another Chasing Paper favorite, in the form of this top-quality linen wallpaper that generates a “sense of casual luxury,” per the brand. A guarantee: It won’t ever overwhelm the eye or clash with your room’s overarching art direction. And, like your go-to striped top, the print can elongate walls or kitchen built-ins (as pictured). Your spice collection won’t know what hit it.

MOST FEMININE

Susan Alexandra x Chasing Paper Summer Trellis Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Inspired by Susan Alexandra founder Susan Korn’s childhood bedroom, this wallpaper partnership — one more top seller from Chasing Paper, which we clearly have a soft spot for — is as vibrant and quirky as the personality-laden accessories that have made Korn famous. “I sincerely believe that wallpaper can change your life,” Korn says in a press release. “The floral motif on the wallpaper from my childhood bedroom completely imprinted on my aesthetic, so when it came time to create designs for this collection with Chasing Paper, I knew that I wanted to pay homage to my younger self and her dreams.”

Honor your own inner child with this Summer Trellis roll: a busy but never “too much” menagerie of lavender, herbs, wildflowers, and a trellis motif connecting it all.

I assigned the wallpaper the task of dressing up a cutting board — which then displayed dehydrated lemons, a nice bottle of wine, and stuffed olives — but the pattern will work just as well in your living room or on your vanity. Given its aversion to right angles, the product is tough to cut, but there is a silver lining: Minor imperfections in your technique will go unnoticed.

TROPICAL-THEMED

Tempaper & Co. Layered Palm Faux Grasscloth Peel and Stick Wallpaper

It’s not so hard to become utterly enamored by the luxury, hand-woven wallcovering that is grasscloth, but real grasscloth still has its downsides (it absorbs moisture, shouldn’t be cleaned, and will gradually get bleached by direct sunlight). Tempaper & Co.’s faux take retains the material’s best qualities while standing the test of time and allowing for regular maintenance. Just wipe it clean with a damp cloth, and go on with your day.

Crafted in the US out of phthalate-free, lead-free vinyl, the Layered Palm Faux Grasscloth Peel and Stick Wallpaper also harnesses the powers of an “innovative double-printing technique, a time-intensive process that delivers high-quality finishes,” Tempaper, widely credited for inventing peel and stick wallpaper, tells WWD.

You don’t have to reside in Portugal to savor the beauty and intricacy of azulejos, which are painted, tin-glazed ceramic tiles that often bedeck the façades of buildings around the country. Urban Outfitters Rachel Antonoff The Chase Toile Removable Wallpaper

$72

I have a serious obsession with Urban Outfitters’ toile wallpaper lineup, and though my “Frog and Toad”–adjacent buy of choice (see below) is no longer in stock, this Rachel Antonoff–ideated alternative shares its je ne sais quoi. Look closely and you’ll discover an eccentric yet endearing visual hiding in plain sight: “majestic maidens participating in a man hunt,” as UO describes it.

In essence, the vinyl panel turns the 18th-century pattern on its head, becoming a subversive counterweight to Toile de Jouy’s typically placid, bucolic energy.

MAXIMALIST

WallPops Scalamandré Leaping Cheetah Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Animal print is reigning supreme in fashion circles again, and this wallpaper took a literal approach when translating the trend to interiors. Its cheetahs in motion, brought to life by Scalamandré, a high-end, heritage textile label, are the definition of grace — being all the more unmissable in context of that invigorating orange backdrop. Leveraging a specific wallpaper type known as NuWallpaper, this creation leaves no sticky residue in its wake and will adhere to anything that’s flat.

Consider this your sign to go wild, much like the land mammals in question.

How to Install Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Prior to commencing your peel and stick wallpaper shopping haul, you’d be wise to confirm just how many rolls of it you need. Most of the retailers we’ve shouted out above have helpful calculators on their websites for this very task, but if you’re going the old-school route and trying to ascertain the square footage of a given room, Anthropologie has a few tips:

“To calculate the square footage of your space, we recommend combining the width of each wall, then multiplying this number by your ceiling height. Next, divide this number by the square footage of a single roll of wallpaper to determine the number of rolls required. Always round up to account for pattern repeat and variation,” the brand says.

As for what should be in your toolkit, The Home Depot‘s tight edit of removable wallpaper application must-haves includes a tape measure, a pencil, a level, a sanding block, a sponge, a hobby knife (AKA a precision cutting tool), and a smoothing tool. Tempaper sells a felt-edged version of the latter for only $6, and Chasing Paper has a whole Peel and Stick Install Kit for the taking.

To get the most tailored-to-you installation suggestions, refer to the how-to guides of the brand(s) you’re buying said wallpaper from. Our experts, though, have no shortage of universally applicable recommendations up their sleeves — for when you’re finally rolling up yours and preparing to change your interiors.

“Don’t try to cover a large area. Work in small sections to avoid folding or wrinkling. Also, smooth out the paper as you go to ensure that it sits flat and clean,” Button says. “Try not to choose an intricate pattern, as it is difficult to line up the print properly. This is better for a professional to undertake.”

When priming your chosen surface for its transformation, make sure nothing’s hanging on it and that it’s clean-slash-dry (even tiny specks of dust can cause air bubbles in the wallpaper). Dealing with fresh paint? Per York Wallcoverings, newly painted surfaces must “cure for a minimum of four weeks” before you upgrade them with peel and stick wallpaper.

To begin, measure out the width of the paper from the left upper corner of the surface and mark the relevant spot with a pencil. Then, employ the help of a level to draw a straight, vertical line down from that marking.

Proceed by cutting the wallpaper to the surface’s height, tacking on an extra inch or so for any adjustments that might have to be made. Peel away a good portion of the paper’s backing, starting from the top, and apply it to your desired area in a way that aligns the wallpaper’s right side with the pencil mark. Trim any excess with your precision cutting tool and repeat the procedure, placing the next wallpaper panel where the previous one ended. Slightly overlapping their edges is encouraged, as this often leads to the pattern at large lining up just right.

It’s best to embark on your wallpapering journey with a buddy, in which case one person can guide a new sheet along the seam while the other smooths it with a squeegee.

Further advice from Rees: “Take your time creating a plumb line, using a level to guarantee the line you’re going off of is straight. Truly give yourself time to do it! I think a lot of people are like, ‘Okay, I have one afternoon. I need to get everything done.’ Do a couple of panels in one day and then come back to it. You can overstretch the paper if you’re sticking and resticking it while feeling stressed and rushed.”

How to Style Removable Wallpaper in a Room

”The biggest things we always talk about are pattern play and scale,” says Rees. “If your room has a bold, floral couch or a statement piece that’s large in scale, go for a smaller scale in the wallpaper so that they’re not competing. Color stories also come into play, and you can make a unified one if you stay within the realms of cool colors and warm colors — or choose one color and then do certain touches of accent colors.”

Button’s styling ideas go as follows: “Choose a wall to highlight with the paper. Depending on the pattern, it can become the artwork for the room. I adore it when [wallpaper] wraps the side of a stairwell or a long hallway — a visual narrative that floats amongst all the doorways.”

If your home’s aesthetic skews towards quiet luxury, Button suggests a “classical approach.”

“Muted patterns and simple detailing are easier to get right and look very professional. Using a limited tonal variety with color is a timeless choice,” she reiterates.

Best Uses for Peel and Stick Wallpaper

I personally used peel and stick wallpaper to breathe life into my apartment’s walls, yes, but also a cutting board, side table, nightstand, kitchen cabinet, fridge, and beyond. The TL;DR? Removable wallpaper’s range of possibilities is limitless.

Kids’ rooms are a solid bet. “There might be one kind of look that you select for the nursery and then [change it up] when they’re four. Maybe when they’re a teenager, you can change it up again. That’s where we see the most transition: people switching out wallpapers based on seasons or [the seasons of] their kids’ lives,” Rees says.

Hosting essentials such as a serving tray similarly provide a marvelous opportunity for play. “When guests come over and you serve drinks or food on it, they’ll say ‘Oh my God, she really has her stuff together! She’s the hostess with the mostest!’” Rees remarks.

Button’s go-to use cases revolve around specific rooms or regions of rooms: “[Peel and stick wallpaper] works well in a bedroom and dining room to create drama or a mural-like effect. Some fun can be had in a powder room, even wallpapering the ceiling — which causes a drenching, cove-like effect, as if the room is embracing the visitor.”

She’s of the opinion that “being able to change out the look of your walls on a whim offers real freedom,” and we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

So, whatever it is you’re about to subject to a peel and stick wallpaper’s magic, be sure to let loose and think big (or small). Nothing’s off the table… save for, well, wallpaper.
