The Thom Browne show may have officially wrapped New York Fashion Week a few hours before, but Chopard kept the party going further downtown.
Casa Cipriani was bustling around 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, as Chopard took over the space for a 50th anniversary celebration of their Happy Diamonds collection. The attire ranged from fashion editors who had done a quick change post shows to jewelry loyalists who were all dolled up in black tie and glam that looked like they’d been at it for hours. Miniature Bellinis, freshly frothed from large pitchers, swirled about on silver trays, happily scooped up by passersby.
Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s artistic director and copresident, stayed near the step-and-repeat, gamely posing for photos with guests and frequently folding her hands into a heart shape while doing so.
Scheufele’s goal for the evening?
“That people are happy,” she said, shimmering in a silver minidress from her own line, called Caroline Couture. She naturally was well-accessorized in stacks of bracelets and necklaces, and a sparkling brooch of her dog, Lord Byron.
The outdoor terrace of Casa Cipriani stayed packed throughout the night, as that was where the celebrities each appeared and where the many Europeans could smoke.
“That’s Karl-Anthony Towns,” one American guest explained to his neighbor, who looked on in confusion. “He’s a huge basketball player.” Towns and new wife Jordyn Woods, who got married over the summer, received cheers from fans as they made their way through the party.
Other guests included Madeline Brewer; Cody Fern, who was in and out all before 8 p.m.; Charli D’Amelio; Laquan Smith, and Cynthia Rowley.
The night’s VIPs were the Happy Diamonds campaign stars, Bella Hadid and Liu Wen.
“First of all, it’s a diamond night,” Wen said over the loud music, shortly after posing for photos. “So diamonds have to go first.” Of her strong-shouldered red minidress, which served as a backdrop for her long diamond necklace, Wen said she wanted to stand out, while letting the diamonds have their moment.
“It’s a very special night,” she added. “It’s the end of fashion week — well, New York Fashion Week that is.”
