Beat ‘Em Up ‘TMNT: Wrath Of The Mutants’ Gets A Switch 2 ‘Ninja Edition’ Next Month

It’s been a while since we’ve had a TMNT game on Switch, huh? Well, next month, we’ll be back to business as usual, as Trailmark Games has announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants – Ninja Edition, a Switch 2 re-release of the 2024 console port.

You’d be forgiven for not remembering Wrath of the Mutants. This GameMill-published beat ’em up was rather forgettable when it broke free of its arcade cabinet origins, with its short playtime and repetitive gameplay pushing it to the wayside as it launched in the midst of something of a TMNT renaissance. Fortunately, the upcoming Ninja Edition hopes to make things slightly better.

Launching digitally on 4th September (physically on 9th October), this Switch 2 version packs in two extra playable characters in the shape of Casey Jones and Master Splinter, three new stages, and six extra boss battles to take on.

Naturally, there are a bunch of technical improvements, too. The upcoming release bumps the resolution up to 1080p in handheld and 4K in docked, the game will play at 60fps with shorter load times, and there’s HDR support and improved graphics quality thrown in for good measure.

The Ninja Edition will be available to pre-order today for $29.99, and Trailmark hasn’t mentioned anything about any upgrade paths for those with the Switch 1 version at the time of writing (we’ve reached out for a comment and will update this post when we hear back).

It seems like a rather steep price to pay for a game that was so slight on Switch 1. We described the base game as “perfectly serviceable but ultimately forgettable, let down by repetitive levels and combat and lacking any reason to go back for more” in our review. Let’s hope those who do choose to pick it up on Switch 2 are in for a better time.
