It still feels like the Chicago Bears are in a position where they have to add another player coming off the edge this season.

The Bears have a lot of decisions to make over the next couple of weeks, and a lot of this will likely come down to the trade deadline. If the Bears are serious about winning a Super Bowl and are playing well prior to the deadline, it seems to be all but guaranteed that they’ll add somebody on the defensive end of the football.

Among the many players who could be available, Josh Sweat is at the top of that list. Sweat has proven over the past few years to be an elite player at getting to the quarterback at a high level, something Chicago needs on its defense. One recent trade pitch would see the Bears land him for a relatively cheap price as well, with a fourth-round pick being sent to the Arizona Cardinals.

Bears Get: Edge Josh Sweat

Cardinals Get: Conditional 2027 4th-Round Pick

“Though he was the topic of trade speculation early in the offseason, the Arizona Cardinals are reportedly uninterested in moving pass-rusher Josh Sweat. Arizona will likely change its stance on trading players if and when it becomes clear that it can’t contend in 2026—or if it becomes obvious that rookie quarterback Carson Beck isn’t a franchise savior.

“Sweat will turn 30 next offseason and looms as a potential 2027 cap casualty. Moving him for quality draft capital would make sense. Giving up a conditional pick that could become a Day-2 selection for Sweat would be logical for a contender like the Chicago Bears,” Kristopher Knox of BR wrote.

I’d love to see the Bears make this type of trade, especially if it’s only for a fourth-round pick. Even if the Bears had to give up a third, I could see why they’d do it. Sweat is a very good player and would be a big help to this defense.
