Bears Join Patriots With Historic Playoff Comeback Vs. Packers

There have been a lot of NFL playoff games over the years, but two of the most improbable comebacks ever happened during the past decade.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots overcoming a massive 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI remains the most iconic rally in perhaps any sport. It was also the first Super Bowl in NFL history to go to overtime, making it even more unprecedented.

The Chicago Bears gave the Patriots a run for their money on Saturday night, however, becoming just the second team in NFL postseason history to score at least 25 points after the end of the third quarter and overcome a 15+ point deficit.

The Bears appeared doomed after going down 21-3 to the Green Bay Packers in the first half of Saturday’s Wild Card Round game. Their defense stepped up in the second half, but they still trailed 21-6 entering the fourth quarter.

That’s when Chicago’s offense finally came alive. Caleb Williams stepped up in his first career playoff start, escaping pressure and making several game-saving throws with the Bears’ season on the line. The Packers’ defense ran out of gas and Brandon McManus missed a pair of clutch kicks, allowing Chicago to rip off 25 fourth-quarter points and emerge with a stunning 31-27 victory over its NFC North rival at Soldier Field.

After earning their first playoff win in 15 years, the Bears will look to build off Saturday’s historic comeback against their next opponent in the Divisional Round.
