Attracting ‘global talent,’ veterans’ rehab services and financial fraud on the agenda

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

As MPs head into the final stretch of the sitting before regular House of Commons business winds down for the season next week, CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION members are set to continue their self-initiated review of ongoing efforts aimed at “attracting and empowering global talent to strengthen Canada’s economy” with a one-hour briefing from senior departmental officials, which will be followed by back-to-back presentations by HVACR Workers of Ontario UA Local 787, L’Hirondelle, Welcoming and Integration Services for Immigrants and U15 Canada. (11 a.m.)

Meanwhile, VETERANS AFFAIRS members hear from the Lifemark Health Group and Richard Brown as part of their ongoing “monitoring” of a multimillion dollar contract awarded to PCVRS for “rehabilitation services.” (12 p.m.)

Later this afternoon, HUMAN RESOURCES, SKILLS AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT members get an update on housing starts from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation CEO Coleen Volk. (3:30 pm.)

Over at INDUSTRY AND TECHNOLOGY, MPs will take a closer look at “financial fraud and scams” during a roundtable chat with representatives of Beauceron Security, Canadian Cyber Threat Exchange and Meta Platforms, as well as the Australian Banking Association Head of Future Policy Nicholas Giurietto. (4:30 p.m.)

Elsewhere on the afternoon circuit:

  • SCIENCE AND RESEARCH members have scheduled what the advisory notes is a “second briefing session” with Chief Science Advisor Mona Nemer. (3:30 p.m)
  • ACCESS TO INFORMATION, PRIVACY AND ETHICS members will survey academic and legal experts as part of their statutory review of the Lobbying Act. (3:30 p.m.)
  • Representatives of the International Campaign for Tibet, Tibet Action Institute and Tibet Watch share the latest developments on Tibetan children being “placed in schools administered by the People’s Republic of China” during an afternoon session with the SUBCOMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS. (3:30 p.m.)
