At least 27 people were killed in Bucha, Ukraine, following a Russian strike overnight, according to Timur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
Another 42 people, including four children, were injured and about 50 residential buildings were damaged, Tkachenko said.
Cleanup, rescue and firefighting operations are ongoing in the Bucha district — located approximately 20 miles northwest of Kyiv — with emergency crews extinguishing fires, conducting search and rescue operations and inspecting buildings in the surrounding area, Tkachenko said in posts on Telegram.
“Tragically, 27 fatalities have been confirmed so far, and this figure may not be final,” Tkachenko said, extending his condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed.
Tkachenko said Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivka community, was among those killed. Didych was “one of the first to rush to the scene to help the people,” Tkachenko said.
Of the 42 people injured, seven have been hospitalized, according to Tkachenko, confirming that medical services are also at the scene of the strike.
A total of 381 people, including 59 children, were evacuated from the area, he said.

An operational headquarters has been established in Dmytrivka to handle inquiries from local residents, with hot meals and psychological support available, according to Tkachenko.
About 50 residential buildings are known to have suffered varying degrees of damage, Tkachenko said, adding that temporary accommodation is available for residents whose homes were affected.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that a warehouse was struck and that surrounding infrastructure, including residential buildings and a care home for the elderly and disabled, “suffered significant damage.”
Zelenskyy also said 10 regions across the country were hit overnight, adding that “Kyiv is under virtually nonstop attack from jet-powered drones” and that “Ukraine cannot be left alone in finding solutions to defend against such strikes.”
