At least 23 people were injured when a shooting occurred Sunday night at a lakeside party in Oklahoma, police officials said.

The shooting took place around 9 p.m. at a campground near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Okla., a northeastern suburb of Oklahoma City, where a crowd of young people was having a party, the police said.

The Edmond Police Department said late Sunday that no suspects were in custody. At a news conference, the police said there was no reason to believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.

The police said the shooting occurred during a party that had been advertised on social media and drew a large crowd of young people from across the metro area. The organizers did not have a permit. According to local news reports, a “Sunday Funday” event was being held at the lake at the time when two gunmen in ski masks arrived and opened fire.

The police said in a statement on Monday that about 23 people had suffered injuries “ranging in severity, including gunshot wounds.”

Integris Health, a hospital system in the area, said on Monday that it had received 13 patients at two hospitals. Seven are still admitted and are as young as 16 years old and as old as 30. Three are listed in critical condition and four in serious condition.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation,” an Edmond police spokeswoman, Emily Ward, said at the news conference late Sunday.

Arcadia Lake is a large recreational area on the Deep Fork River. Its shores are full of picnic areas, beaches and docks for water sports.
