3 victims are seniors at Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette, mayor says

Boulet did not provide further information on the victims or their injuries.

Lafayette is located about 50 miles away from Baton Rouge.

At least 1 killed and 5 injured, police say; 5 in custody

At least one of the people who were shot has died and five people are now in custody, Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. said Thursday evening. The person who was killed was not immediately identified.

He also clarified that five others had been injured, after previously saying there had been 10 total victims. One person was in surgery, and three others had minor injuries, Morse said. The other person had “very minor” injuries, he said.

Morse said authorities are still looking for more people who may have been involved. He did not provide any further information on those in custody or what charges they may be facing.

Police call on public for cellphone video, information

Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. asked anyone with information or cellphone video of the shooting to come forward to help identify the suspects.

Baton Rouge mayor: “We’re gonna catch you”

“We’re gonna catch you,” Baton Rouge Mayor Sid Edwards said, addressing those responsible for the shooting.

“We’re not gonna have this in Baton Rouge. It’s not gonna happen,” he said. “I have complete confidence in our law enforcement partners that we’re gonna go out and grab these guys and get them off the street.”

Police: At least 10 injured, no longer an active shooter incident

Police said this is no longer an active shooter incident.

The shooting appears to have occurred after two groups of people got into an argument in the mall’s food court. Several bystanders who were not involved may have been shot, Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. said.

Ten people were taken to local hospitals, Morse said. He did not provide details on their injuries, although CBS affiliate WAFB-TV reported at least two people were critically injured. Police confirmed that several of the victims were in surgery.

FBI responding to scene

The FBI’s New Orleans field office said in a statement it was “aware of and is responding to an incident at the Mall of Louisiana with our partners. At this time, that is all the information we can provide.”
