Assassin’s Creed Hexe is at least one year away, insider claims

Assassins’s Creed: Codename Hexe is set to follow up Shadows as the next original mainline game in the long-running series. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be waiting longer still for it to re-appear.

NateTheHate, an insider with a decent track record when it comes to industry leaks, was asked on X whether they know when Hexe will be unveiled. NateTheHate explained that the in-development game’s projected release is months away, so it wouldn’t make sense for a reveal to happen just yet.

“Game won’t launch until second half of 2027, at [the] earliest. They don’t need to rush a reveal/announcement,” NateTheHate said in a reply on X, referring to publisher and developer Ubisoft.

The last we’ve heard of Hexe was in April, when the game’s director, Benoit Richer, announced their departure from the studio. The news came just two months after creative director Clint Hocking was confirmed to have left the project and Ubisoft.

Before that, Assassin’s Creed franchise lead Marc-Alexis Côté also left Ubisoft, in a shakeup that resulted in the creation of the Vantage Studios subsidiary, which Ubisoft and Tencent established to oversee development of the former’s biggest franchises, including Assassin’s Creed.

As for Hexe itself, the project has been mysterious practically from the moment it was announced. The game is said to involve witchcraft in Europe’s Middle Ages, with Coté calling it at the time “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game”. Little else is known beyond that.

The most recent release in the series is, of course, Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 game. Resynced has so far been one of the most successful Assassin’s Creed games, selling over 3.5m units in two weeks. The game exceeded Ubisoft’s own expectations, and broke series records on Steam.
