Asian Games 2026 – Jasprit Bumrah named in full-strength India squad

Jasprit Bumrah will be part of a full-strength India squad at the Men’s T20 event at the 2026 Asian Games in September-October in Japan. The selectors rested the fast bowler from the T20I tours of Ireland and England in June-July, with ODIs taking precedence in the lead-up to the 2027 World Cup, but they have picked him in the 15-member squad for the Asian Games.
Bumrah takes the place of Mohammed Siraj, who is part of the T20I squads in Ireland and England. Prince Yadav, the 16th member of those squads, will not be in the Asian Games squad either.

Newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer will lead the squad in Japan, with Tilak Varma as his deputy, and 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi competing for a top-order slot alongside the regular top three of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan.

The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture in Japan will take from September 19 to October 4, clashing with India’s three-ODI series against West Indies between September 27 and October 3, followed by five T20Is from October 6.
The men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games will be played in the T20 format and begins on September 24 with the final on October 3. Ten teams – India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Japan, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Oman – will compete for the gold medal.

The tournament begins with preliminary qualifiers between September 24 and 26, followed by the quarter-finals (September 28-29), the semi-finals (October 1), and the bronze medal and gold medal match on October 3.
