Veja is set to release its first-ever sneaker without its iconic “V” logo on the side panel via a new collaboration with fellow French brand Arpenteur.
Indeed, Marc Asseily, co-founder of Arpenteur, told FN in an interview that Veja was hesitant to agree to the idea at first.
“We totally understand why they would be reluctant because the logo is such an important thing to their identity,” Asseily said. “But eventually Veja understood our idea to showcase the essential quality of the shoe, and they accepted it. But also, too, I think it requires a lot of confidence in your product to do this project without your logo. So, we really appreciate them for that.”
For her part, Caroline Bulliot, creative director of Veja, noted that she “wasn’t surprised” by the initial request to remove the logo having known the Arpenteur team and their approach to minimalist design for more than a decade.
“We didn’t think that they would push back so much though on not using the logo,” Bulliot told FN. “It was quite a long conversation. But, in the end, we are quite happy with the project because you can see all of the details and the personality of the shoe while still keeping Arpenteur’s design front and center.”
Set to release on Sept. 3, the menswear brand updated Veja’s Panenka sneaker in an all-black colorway that features visible stitching on the upper, contrasting suede details and a padded finish.

The made-in-Brazil style is completed with an organic traced leather upper, while the insole consists of a bio-based EVA made from sugar cane. Other materials used in the production of this sneaker include Amazonian rubber, mineral silica, recycled polyester and cotton.
And while the large “V” on the side panel may be missing, the Veja logo appears on the tongue of the shoe, mirroring Arpenteur’s at the back. Both company’s come together on a leather tag attached to the laces, featuring the brands’ logos.
As for if consumers can expect a part two from the duo, Bulliot says it could happen in the future. “We always approach projects like these as see how people will react and take our time with it,” she added. “We never really rush into any project. It’s always good to take time and if we want to do a second season, then, no worries. Even if it’s one year later or more, we have time.”
The new Arpenteur x Veja Panenka will be available on each brands’ respective websites and stores as well as retailers like Mohawk General Store, Lost & Found, Centre Commercial and Sportivo.
